It's spelled "rogue."

Also, NetHack. It's probably not your style, though.

Does that mean you want games that are like red but they aren't actually red? Do you want pink games?

Ignoring the spelling error, most of those use the term roguelike rather loosely.

The original Spelunky is free and in the same vein.

And for a more traditional roguelike, I think Powder is pretty fun.

Well, the obvious suggestion would be the original Rogue, but I'd say to go with NetHack instead. It's not the newest game, but there's a depth that only a game that's been actively developed for almost 30 years will likely have. Angband is quite popular as well. If you want something a bit more modern DoomRL (http://doom.chaosforge.org/) and Tales of Maj'Eyal (http://te4.org/) are both very well-received. Dwarf Fortress is also a good option, but that starts moving away from the classic roguelike.

I'm personally a fan of Decker (http://www10.caro.net/dsi/decker/) which is a cyberpunk take on the genre although it's only available for Windows.

There are free versions and I figured they fit his description close enough. Let's get pedantic about it, though.
