I was awaiting and prepared myself for a cat for 2 weeks, i only seen pictures of her, but already named her, and today my mom told me a predator bird grabbed her and killed her. :(
If only that stupid car airco didn't broke down, and the woman didn't fell she would have been here already, safe.
Although my moms story is a bit incoherent as Masafor explained, because while it could be possible and rare here a bird would grab a kitten, it could basically still happen, but i don't want to accuse or blame her for anything and even then she did it in all her best intentions.

I was still a bit chill about it, even doubts, but i never thought for even something i didn't even met, i could feel such sorrow for what happened, may you rest in peace my Snowie.
If anyone wants to say some blessings, good luck or whatever i thank you in advance, i am not gonna reply to everyone personally in this case.

I'm so sorry.

Birds of prey can be tenacious. When I had Boston Terrier puppies, I had to follow them around my yard to keep them from getting snatched up by hawks. And even that doesn't always work. I read a story online of someone getting their dog grabbed up, even though the dog was right next to them.
I know they're just trying to survive, but I don't care. I hate seeing hawks flying around overhead. Fuck 'em.

I hope things work out with your new kitten. That kitty is adorable!

So you lost some to them or you could still grab them? :/

There were some clips of them even taking babies, but apparently they been a hoax.

Yeah hawks can just eat vermin, and really there aren't many that go say oh those hawks (or vultures) are so beautiful, same thing a bit with bugs like mosquito's, they say it's all part of a food chain, but mweh.

Thank you, she sure looks adorable. :)

im sure you'll bond with the other cat quickly though and the pain will lessen. is it from the same litter? a brother or sister of snowie?

I don't know anymore my mom told me so much inconsistencies, https://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/xfalAyb compare that to the ones in the OP. I think it's the same kitten, the red face with the black part on the left, the white collar, white feet, and then yes it would be a sister, or i am just wrong and then it's a whole different nest.

At this moment i don't know anymore, there is still so much going on with the moving (i have plastic waste bags on my window until i can find someone wanting to help hang curtains), just this weekend someone helped me hang lights (afters 6 weeks!).
Then there is the mental stress and anxiety.

I am not trying to get too attached anymore to the other kitten until i exactly see it here you know, cute as it may be.

My mom wanted a white one, i wanted the white and red one, at first by mistake or not (it's whatsapp after all) she told me she could be sick, and then later said oh no the red one is, maybe pushing me towards the white one.
Then perhaps the white one could have been sick and passed away (this weekend?) then she couldn't go back on the white lie about the red one, or indeed a bird just took her, honestly i am 50/50 about it on what to believe.
It's weird how my niece still already got her cat.

Yeah, i will get through it, if i survived all the things in my life so far. :p

Oh no... I am very sorry for what happened.
But if you can see it differently, it's "better" that it happened that way. Before you can really love her. I would also agree that the first thing you should do when you get one is to take it to a vet.

Wow, this made me feel bad. I'm sorry this happened to Snowie. You should be more assertive in trying to get that other kitten with you as soon as possible to possibly prevent something from happening to it. That is really a shame you had to do all of this waiting instead of just being with Snowie. My condolences to you Lugum.

I don't have a car so that really limits me, the only one i got is my sister but sometimes you have to make an "appointment", the only person that never had any issues about saying lets hit the car, was my dad, but sadly passed away 2 years ago.
it should arrive sunday, and i hope that stupid airco is fixed now because again just at that time it's gonna be 30C again (i am afraid it's gonna last that the whole summer), can't stand that heat.

Well a bird or she been ill, that's still a debatable thing only my mom knows (till now). if she had been ill then there was also nothing i could have done, if it was the bird then yeah, she could have been saved.

Thank you.

Thank you, actually no it's newly build (thank god for me) although i just wish i had 1 more room, but it's actually cold.
I mean, i got no drapes yet while i am on the sun side (everything i have to rely and wait on volunteers why it took 2 months before i could move in).
And i was lucky enough to have a nice neighbour helping with hanging the lamps this weekend, i had to be like camping with the light of my smartphone for 6 weeks.

I couldn't build the bed drawers (to store my junk in) until that lamp was hung, yesterday i was standing on a spinning chair and offcourse you know you should never do that because you will fall, and yeah it hurt, but i was still stubborn to start with the rest of my bed, which even hurt my back more (while i already was awake at 5:00) but the bed legs i have to get help again with, because someone has to pull the bed up while the other has to screw the plates on.

I still need to find a way to catproof the balcony, i know it shouldn't be so hard to do with tie wraps, but i am like what height do i need, and if only my sister would just go to the hardware store instead of me on the bike.

Anyway, i was putting waste bags on all my glass to prevent it from getting so hot (this weekend will be the second time we will reach 30C) but i slept with sweat pants and sheets over me... it was that cool, which i never expected.
I even had the sniffles for a few days and sneezing, but usually also a dry mouth and a headache waking up, so not good like it's all cooling too much, even a whole mosquito came out of the filter system (they say you have to often vacuum it).

The thing is with a normal thermal heating, in a normal house when you set it to 22c it will immediately get to 22c.
Apparently here you have to plan it a day ahead, but since it's now already so cold i hope there is nothing wrong, that i will freeze myself in the winter (it shouldn't be).

The system is sometimes burning red, while my neighbour said it should be orange/green, noone really in this building knows how it works (and there are more things), i have to check it out sometime, maybe call where i rent from, but in time.
While inconvenient having a door block every passageway the cat can't atleast escape through the front door.

September 7 they going to have a meet up, with a food truck, activitities, i think i might even as a joke buy a t shirt that says kiss me, i am single (since apparently there are a bunch of single girls there, and i am too). :p

You could always get a cheap oil heater if you need to supplement your heating situation during the winter.
The balcony seems like the main concern. I wouldn't even let the cat go on the balcony if its preventable. I don't know if you have a door that opens up into the balcony or what. They are pretty smart and won't just walk off it but accidents can happen. You seem like you would be a great cat parent but the process is taking such a long time.
Good luck finding a woman at the event. Show them a picture of your future kitten, that may help you in some way. :)

I am paying a small fortune to not have gas and they all promised it would be 21C in the winter, while gas became so expensive at my moms home, during the day we went from 21C to 19C and 15C in the night (when at night it actually is the coldest) then we heard oh an electrical heater is much cheaper, actually it was way more expensive.
I also believe parrafine, oil etc also weren't so healthy.

I have 2 doors that can lead to the balcony, why wouldn't you let it go on the balcony if it's well protected, if the railings are covered? I got a neighbour with 2 bigger cats and i am like aren't you afraid they jump off? And they didn't.
But i can still always look at a net to hang even, they would be totally safe there and have some extra things to look at outside.
The only thing is the winter, as i can't make a cat door/hatch, and i am not going to sit in the cold with a door open waiting when it wants in or out.

I am sure it will be, they grow, they change, same like human babies i guess (only it takes longer and they give you hell when they hit puberty). :p

Thank you, well i already got 1 nice looking neighbour, i was talking to my neighbour on the left and she yelled to the one on the right about what fence she had, but i forgot, so i knocked on her door, noone home, so i think i drop her a letter in her mailbox with my number and emailadres if she could give me the exact fence sort, but she never replied.
She is also very much to herself it seems.

I'm worried the kitten may want to climb on the net. Maybe I'm wrong.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Offcourse that would totally depend on the cat, but my neighbour has 2 adult cats, with banks/stools to climb on and jump off from the balcony, they never once did (for now offcourse. she can still have it happen).

It would only be as a precaution (later when she has grown) but the net will be attached to the balcony above me, so there is no way she can climb and fall on the ground below, the whole outside of the balcony will be totally impossible to get through, like a cat fortress, and i think it also matters how tight you make it.

The worse thing could happen is if she falls (but that will happen to a lot of cats) and land on her feet again, better on the balcony (which is 3/3,5? meter?) then on the ground below although that's just soil and grass and i only live on the first floor.

https://www.bol.com/nl/nl/p/kattennet-voor-balkon-4x10-meter-katten-gaas-kattennet-balkon-katten-net-transparant/9300000048651679/ Something like that, you got them in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and material.

At least you only live on the 1st floor so even if the kitten falls it should be ok. I just was getting the feeling that the net is enticing to the cat and it may want to climb on it, hang on it, rest on it etc. I hope you get this kitten very soon. I still feel bad on what happened to Snowie. It makes me pretty angry to be honest that she was not being cared for better. You really want the kitten and seem like you will try your best to care for it yet its taking ages for the kitten to get to you. I don't like it.

Yeah i am not afraid of heights, but i am still "lucky" to be on the first floor, it "feels" better, i also believe in grounding having your feet as much on the ground, i wanted a ground apartment, but there was only 1 available.

I think the nets are designed so their claws can't really get a grip (but i am not an expert).

Not only Snowie (which was bad luck because if that airco didnt break down or it wasn't 30C then yeah it would be here safe and sound), another one came under the lawnmower. I was told both were a gruesome sight to see. :x
The girlfriend of the owner is in the proces of moving in (so she wasn't aware) with the guy from the farm and was so furious she made sure the mother was neutered so there won't be kittens anymore there.
And it's so tempting to let them roam in all that free space, but yeah they should have been locked up.
All i can hope this one is taken very special care of, and that it will arrive just fine monday/tuesday.

I still believe it's the same cat as my "second pick" the pictures of the old one and new ones are too striking in my opinion (the spots).
I tried to ask my mother three times but she ignores to answer that part, she said 1 cat was sick, so maybe to make me choose the white one (white lie). But then again i also wanted both, while only 1 cat was possible. i am kinda waitng her reply.

Last part of the story i will post monday/tuesday hopefully with pictures.

I only have a 1 bedroom apartment, trust me if i had a house (and money) i would have and could have adopted 2 in the first place, but if something were to happen to my mother i will get her 2 cats too, because my sister can't take care of them, and i don't want them in an asylum.

2+2=4 and that would definitely be too much (3 already is), especially right now where i live.
I still hope to move again although not looking to that stress again, but unfortunately you can't predict the future (especially with how bad it's going in the world / countries / governments).

But i believe my mom said there was only 1 cat left, the one i will get.

The girlfriend of the owner of the farm (she doesn't completely live there yet, in the proces of moving, else she would have known more about it and could have prevented it sooner) she was also pretty angry, so much so that she had the mother cat neutered, so there won't be kittens anymore there, and hopefully the last remaining cat can stay absolutely safe until she comes here.

I know it's very tempting on a big farm to just let them roam, but not as kittens, they should have been locked up in a room, till they were grown, but yeah. Can't change it alas.

Sure, it's very important not to let them roam freely when they're kittens, it's very dangerous u_u In fact, any environment can be dangerous. For example, when I adopted my cat, I installed nets on my balcony to prevent accidents.

Comment has been collapsed.

I think maybe being a guy, he was just reckless (or worse couldn't really care about the cats. :x) some just get no bonding to pets sadly.

Well mine will be a kitten, so the only danger now is she could fall through the railing, i have to protect that.

Strange thing is my neighbour has 2 grown cats, with all sorts of furniture to climb on and easily could jump off the balcony. But she said it didn't happen (yet)), but i wouldn't risk it so when my cat has grown i will probably hang a safety net too.
But i live on the first floor and below is soil and grass, so not like it's a hard fall, just a matter of chasing after it (but i live in an industrial area right across the hospital, so lots of cars, so it's better not even trying to risk that).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm glad to know that you will take safety measures because cats often get distracted while chasing a bug or bird and jump without realizing they're about to fall. Cats can easily enthralled by the excitement of chasing prey, making it important to create a secure environment for them.

I even moved most of my junk (i had more closet space in my old room at my parents house :x) temporary to my bedroom (which she won't come), i don't like them going on my bed and such (the germphobia thing).
So she has the whole living room clear where nothing can fall (i hope), and she can have the whole balcony (it's empty) and yeah i could sit there on a chair with a steamdeck (which i never used) but i am like why on such a small screen when you got a big one and a keyboard/mouse, so i am mostly behind that.

Normal old flats would just have a front door and your own apartment door, but here all because of fire hazard proof, you need to go to through 5 doors before reaching your apartment, so i can't even make it an outside cat (aside from all the cars here), although there are some outside cats on the ground floor below me.

If only i could have had a cat door so she could go in and out at will, but that isn't possible, and not an issue now when it's 30C but when it get's near fall (or winter, i dunno when it gets too cold for them), but then it's an small issue, there are a lot of insects so also keeping the door open all the time, the room will be filled up by them.
And at my parents place i could all easily get them because the ceiling is 2meter and i am 193cm, but this ceiling is 2,50cm so even i can't reach those places.

Well now today my mom said another one got hit by a lawnmower (big farm) i mean why not keep them locked up? I find that also strange. My mom got her cats just fine two years ago, even my niece has hers already (i thought from the same nest), somehow with my cat there seems to be issues..

And she sure is yeah, i am a bit careful now on expecting things, i am like i await till it's actually here, in my home, safe (atleast i hope i made it safe enough, with a cat you never know what they do).

Big farm, i think they just want to let them enjoy the outside (even with the dangers) no clue, i don't know these people personally.
Not just Snowie apparently grabbed by a bird, but also another one that got under a lawnmower, so with 2 cats you think one would be even more careful.

A friend said Bowie after i told her Snowie, but i already made up my mind then, i am a Bowie fan, but i don't think that name really fits. My mom made it Bowy, and i think that might work, it's both a male and female name.

Is the name set into stone? How about you wait to get the cat safely with you... a name might pop up in your mind depending on its purrsonality/behavior?

Also, I'm sorry about Snowie. :( I would have probably been crushed if the same happened to me.

Kinda, because of that friend (deep relationship, long story) and my mother also already made it that way (who wants to argue against 2 women? No man), and i don't think it's that bad myself.
I am also just very terrible with naming, if i ever get a son i know names, Jonathan / Valdemar / Ingmar, but if i would get a girl i would have no clue, probably let the girlfriend pick.
If it were a male cat it probably would been Max (one of the options for my moms cats, but she went for Sam).
Maybe i have the same naming trouble with female cats as female humans, i don't know.

I am however offcourse not getting so much attached as with Snowie (in case something happens again), i am really careful now.

Thank you.

I once had a kitten that didn't make it pass his first month, his mother abandoned him in our backyard and despite my mom and my best efforts he was too weak to make it to adulthood, so I'm aware of how much of an emotional gut punch it can be.
