So now that you've had tons of time to think it over, what do you think was the best game of 2011?

Mine was probably either Portal 2 or Skyrim... can't really decide. Yeah I know, boring choices.

If Skyrim didn't have so many little issues, and if they had perhaps focused on really fleshing out a few quests instead of bombarding you with lame ones it may have been a way better experience.

Thoughts?

Deus Ex Human Revolution was my game of the year followed very closely by Dead Island. I'm not sure what to say about Skyrim because I haven't played it yet, but Portal 2 wasn't challenging enough to be at the top :P

Batman: Arkham City

Runner-up: Deus Ex: Human Revolution, even though I never asked for this.

Since I don't think anyone else mentioned it I'll also throw in Shadows of the Damned, but I'm not very far in it yet.

Why do you ask?

So there's a lot of people saying Deus Ex Human Revolution.

I have the game but it's still sitting in my backlog, I intend to get to it soon but that is why it's not mentioned in my OP.

Man I need to finish up Skyrim so I can get to that game...

Meh, I couldn't choose between these so they are all GOTY for me: Deus Ex Human Revolution, To The Moon, Bastion, The Binding of Isaac

Portal 2. The best fun in every way.

But I'd keep in mind Skyrim and BF3 as well. The Skyrim is pretty popular, but i havent played it yet. So i dont know. And BF3? The multiplayer is damn awesome! ...but still, could be better, could be on steam >:c and the heavily scripted singleplayer sucks so hard... So It deserves serious nomination, but it's definitely not GOTY.

It'll probably be Portal 2. With as much praise as it received from games casual to hardcore, there's little doubt that this game will come out on top. A lot of games were released that were pretty damned good, and I think Human Revolution deserves honorable mention, too.

Dead Island on the other hand was shit.

Deus Ex: HR.
It did justice to the original, while updating the mechanics to suit the current generation. It's a masterfully crafted game and in my humble opinion no other game came even close to being as good as DX:HR last year. A lot of people have complained about the ending, which I thought was great (a literal Deus Ex Machina, how can you not love that?) and it managed to tie in to the original.
Wish they released more DLC, though.
