im pretty new and i wanted to know if is typing Thanks everytime i enter a giveaway beneficial to me when it comes to winning? because it seems like everyone else is doing it because they see other people doing it, but i havent found anything on this site explaing why people do it,other than bececause they see other people doing it and also because saying thank you isnt a bad thing to do, i just want to know if it has any real significance when it comes to winning giveaways? Thank You XD

Your question sounds that you care if the "thx" pushes your winning chance and if so, than that would be the only reason to write it down for you...

Keeping in mind that the way I do things may be a bit different than your average SteamGifts patron....

1) I read every comment of every giveaway I make. Every one.
2) I respond to every comment on my giveaways that goes beyond "thanks," generally in proportion to the amount of effort put into the comment.
3) I make it a point to thank the creator of any giveaway I enter before the close of said giveaway. Either that, or I withdraw my entry.

I do all of the above to show my appreciation for the kindness and generosity shown by the people who frequent this site. It gains me nothing tangible. It certainly doesn't increase my chances of winning giveaways. (You can ask anyone and they'll tell you. D ) My reward is the satisfaction I get from brightening someone's day, even if only a little. That is the same reason why I spend money giving games away on this site.

I speak only for myself, but I doubt I'm the only one who is like this. )

Wow... Once again, this is the top comment of the thread.
This is EXACTLY how I think about giveaways and "thanks" comments.

Pretty much the same. I sincerely appreciate every comment on my giveaways, including just "thanks" comments too, but especially the ones with a little more content. Which is why I always try to thank the gifters at the very least, and possibly say something in relation to the game, the GA description, or the puzzle/thread that led me to it.

edit: also, I would never go so far as to say that I'm bitter about people not saying thanks or that I would hold it against them, but to be honest, I've always felt a pang of disappointment when someone who didn't leave a comment in my thread/on the GA won. Not because I feel entitled to their gratitude, but because it feels like the people who took the time to write something would have probably appreciated the game more, Idunno. /shrug

I feel the same way. On occasion, I get a winner who not only doesn't comment on the giveaway, but doesn't even say "thanks" after I give them the game (which I always do in person). It's always disappointing when that happens.

most people are only generous as long as they gain something out of it.

It's not beneficial, that's just a joke. People usually type it as a matter of courtesy although it can get somewhat spammy at times.

Some people are actually thankful and nice enough to say that.

So ... you should only say thanks when it's beneficial to you? The OP's post makes me want to cry.

There is no benefit to saying thanks, but it's a meagre gesture of gratitude.
Not everyone can muster the mental energy to come up with original comments, not when some people make a lot of entries a day and there is no subject to talk on (nor any familiarity with often mostly-anonymous online gaming accounts). The thanks is just a token of appreciation. Even if you don't win, it's just a symbol that someone figured you're doing something cool enough to warrant a comment. A short and ultimately meaningless comment, but a comment all the same. It's our equivalent of clicking a "like" button.

The people putting up these giveaways often pay out good money just to feed this community with chances at free games. Sure we get a lot of bundle leftovers, but even then that's still consideration random people on the internet are giving to us, y'know? You don't have to, but it's cool just to offer a nod now and again to the people who serve as the collective beating heart of this community.

OP didn't claim his only won game. Love when these guys draw attention to themselves.
