No, it does not give you a better chance of winning. That said it is still nice to show some appreciation towards the giveaways you enter (especially the more expensive ones).

Except many people use add-ons that just post the same generic message in every giveaway they enter.

Why would they do that?
They get no reward for it... :S

Some private groups/giveaway groups require a certain comment/entry ratio to be accepted. Not so much seen nowadays, but about a year ago there were quite a few recruit threads with the ratio requirement of 2:1 at the very least.

I enter to 10-20 GA at once, so i do a copy paste, but i do it because i like appreciate to all they who are doing the GA(Without take long time preventing say various things that at the end represent the same). And i don't use any add-on.
Edit: And i'm not in any private group that requires 1:1 balance.

They're thanking the person who is nice enough to give a free copy of a game away to a complete stranger.

Yeah, but it's not really the same in terms of feedback. I find it kinda nice when people write thanks.

Because being ungrateful is just being a total asshole.
In my opinion, if you can't take the time to thanks the giveaway creator, you don't deserve to win or even enter the giveaway.

Thanking in the giveaway thread is pointless imo, send a thanks if you win and believe it or not some people don't even bother to do that, I'd say about 50%-60% of the people who won my giveaways sent me a thanks, the rest never bothered their arse, they are the ones I hope have tech issues trying to play the games ;)

Many use this way to just boost their comments to entry ratio, at least to my knowledge. I've asked for a solution since the first day I registered here, unfortunately they seems to not find this an issue or relevant enough. Anyway being kind in some sort it's appreciated since users do giveaways out of their own pockets :)

I can agree with you but unfortunately many users (at least when I first joined) seemed to care more on that number than anything else. Like, if you don't have a >1 ratio, you are probably a dick, you cannot join giveaways, neither groups where are given away more appetible games. Things like that doesn't help create a fair community, also with all the scripts and stuff that is around, these thanks spam doesn't have much sense. Of course I think thanking is important, but I think also that the current system is not more representative than a button to say that.
Thank you for caring about my opinion :)

I think it is spam to do so, I just create a sentence with the giveaway creator's name to at least show I made effort in thanking him/her instead of pressing Ctrl+V... Otherwise I feel it is just spam. There is giveaways made where people expect you to thank them and have a good comment to giveaways entered ratio (which either means you posted thanks in every giveaway or spammed a lot on the forums).

Any modicum of effort aside from simply clicking the enter button is a sign of respect and appreciation for the generous act the person is committing. I don't consider it spam to type thank you, unless the contributor explicitly states otherwise. Likewise, I think it's a bit disingenuous to enter giveaways without a single peep. Correspondingly, I type thank yous for all my giveaways unless explicitly stated to do otherwise.

Its polite. They are giving away a game for free and you are rude enough to just be like, "Whatever, you are giving this away for free, so you know.. So?"
