I don't get the get it on steam option in the description. I do for the visual novel but leads to a dead link basically.

Yeah, it says unlocked 0/54 goodies, even one for epic whatever that is, but it just does not nothing, there is nothing to click even with your accounts linked.

It's a permanently free offer [since 2019!] through the developer's own website that activates through account linking, meant to encourage people to join their website's community. It absolutely does get received and there's no region restrictions. This thread's not doing a great job of properly clarifying what kind of offer it is.

Well, it should work after account linking, but it isn't for everyone - checked without ad blockers and from different browsers but there is no button to "get it on steam" like for other titles like Love Thyself, and the page you linked redirects to the same page ( https://community.amplitude-studios.com/profile/me/rewards ) and searching for it on steam still shows it as non-free.

I'm having some trouble working out what you're saying, but here's my best attempt to answer:
People've been claiming it just fine over the past few years, even before the confirmations within this thread (I've personally had close friends activate it 2 years after the event, around a year ago, and most recently 3~4 months ago, and I've encountered several others who commented on claiming it within the past five years. It's entirely possible that wasn't intended by the developer to be possible but, by the information I have and the fact that- as far as I've seen- noone has ever commented on it ending, the promotion should have intentionally been consistently but silently up this whole time, much like GOG's witcher promotion).
As far as it having issues, it seems to have always had some problems with that (though not necessarily the same ones over time), as indicated in the comments of both resources I linked (or, really, the comments on most any amplitude promotion; just consider the recent Endless Legend promotion, which was a thorough mess). (In other words, expect issues with Amplitude giveaways.)
For the original problems, the developer apparently recommends syncing your steam account through a sync button option on www.games2gether.com/profile/me/rewards, which is apparently set up similar to the sync button on SG. You could try that (presumably it's still available through the nearly identical community.amplitude-studios link you've already referenced above, now that games2gether has been changed to that?) and see if it helps.
And if that's not a workable solution, then Scrollo has offered a more roundabout fix below, suggesting that somehow the promotion did get a bit borked during the domain/backend change, as it now seems to possibly require certain site achievements to have been unlocked to show up properly (from the looks of it, the unlock requires the account linking achievement, but that achievement is itself currently a bit glitchy).
With the domain change being fairly recent, it could explain why there's only problems popping up just now. I'm also seeing active bug reports about the redemption issue on the site itself, so that's supportive of the fact that it is indeed just a recent bug.
The developer has never made the game free directly on Steam (seems like the best Steam has gotten is 97% off), nor has Enhanced/Augmented Steam ever shown it as free (beyond when it was free in the Humble Store), due to those extensions tying in to ITAD, which only references specific sites, of which Amplitude's developer site is not one.
Again, your reply was a bit confusing, so hopefully I've responded properly to all the questions you may have had.

I managed to snag my key after reading and following Minion3665's post here
Basically, scroll down the page. Click any of the badge progress images. First element in the new page, click the X on the right of the page. You'll then see a list of badges. Find one called 'Profiler' and click it, then click 'connect your account to steam'. You should then see a redeem button for Endless Space, which puts it straight into your Steam library.
Hopefully works for others.

You have to be linked to Steam already before doing it, so follow that first.

Can confirm. Did not have the redeem button under the game page from the rewards page. Was able to redeem through the badge page as indicated above. It will open a list of redeemables once you press the 'x' in the top right corner and you can click redeem there.

Interestingly, you can also redeem Endless Space 2 DLCs in the Badges page without owning the base game. I don't own ES2.
