So, a week ago I won my first giveaway ever and it was a pretty good game that I ever wanned to try, it was F.E.A.R 3, so I was all excited but a little sceptical about it, so I decided to give the user some time to deliver the game, 3 days after I decided to add this guy to contact him and make sure that everything is fine, 1 day after it I was looking for this guy in my friendlist and he doesn't appear, he reject the friend request, then I realize what's going on, so I put a comment on his profile, saying that if he is going to deliver or what, 3 hours later, he deleted my comment. I'm really dissapointed about this, the first game that I won and It was fake.

My question is, what happen to those user who make fakes GA, does they get ban or just a little suspension?

By the way, sorry about my bad english, I hope my topic make sense.

^ this.

@OP: To effectively report the user, use the support section, do not use the report button on the user's profile page (it's currently not working as intended, mods can access those reports).

Yeah I just marked it as "Not Received" I need to report him after it or by marking it "Not Received" is enough?

nothing happens to them :( most dont even get a short suspension

the site is a bit of a minefield, sadly, with greater attention and punishments handed out to those who warn of fake giveaways, than to the people who use this site to troll with the fake GA's :(

I wont call it trolling since most just dont know what they are doing, but i agree in what you say about the punishments for people that warns of fake giveaways those comments help avoid situations like this

Wow really? that's a little bit unfair, I just got ban for 2 days a week ago by using the N-word (I was using it just to tell a joke without any intentions to offend anyone) But those who really deserve to get ban got a free pass over everything, I don't know guys but that's unfair.

I feel for you. Seems like the guy will not give you the game...

So I want to redeem the situation. Contact me in Steam in 3-4 hours from now, and I'll gift you this game. Just a random act of kindness =)

I just saw that you edited your post.
You should not mention the name of the GA creator, because it's considered calling out and might get you suspended (even though for obvious reasons the name is visible to all users from your profile page).

To answer your other question: marking a GA as not received and reporting a user are unrelated and you will still have to create a support ticket in addition of marking the GA as not received.

Sorry about it, I didn't know that and thanks for the advice.

Umm I think calling out is not allowed on here so you might want to remove the edit? I could be wrong though.

Thats a mega shame, its fairly sad to see that happen :(. I'm interested to know what they do for things like this as well, or whether they have an appropriate conditions for things like this. For example a quite new steam account with a failure to send a gift might be an instaban while a one off thing may be seen as an error if given an acceptable excuse.

And what about opposite situation? I sent the gift to the winner through the email and he didn't activated it for 7 days. I was about to request a new winner but then BLAM he suddenly accepted my friend invitation so I warned him about my email.

I wanted to contact him directly because he didn't activated his gift. I was checking that guys activity and he was online all the time both here on SG and on Steam.

if it's a gift, I think you can cancel the gifting process in the Steam client as long as the winner did not accept it.

If the winner accepted the gift or if you've sent a key, the mods will not grant your re-roll request but you can still report the winner (with proof that you've sent the gift/key and that you've tried to contact him both by Steam client and by mail).

All you can do is wait a week, if they don't give you the game mark as not received.

There are ones that are worse though, I won a game, I even got it from the person and played it. 2 week later the game got revoked. A bunch of us from the same person had this happen. We reported him and he got banned.

After being reported, with evidence it can take time for the ban to happen. It would be nice if it was instant but well this is a free site to use and no one is paid and there are a lot of active users and I'm sure a lot of support messages that they have to weed through and check.

People who do fake giveaways do get banned it just takes time.

As to people who call out on the forums getting suspended... I'm of 2 minds on that. Having helped run a large forums for many years (with an iron fist when it came to rule breakers which were far ore strict then here) I understand the rule about no calling out of someone in public, it can give someone a bad name even if they have not actually done anything wrong.

BUT I do like to see people who are guilty publicly shamed and would love to see a thread that only admins and mods can post in, that puts up a persons name, length of suspension/ban and the reason for the suspension/ban and how many times they have been suspended.

You should wait 7 days and mark it as not received if you didn't get it. Also, you might have ruined your chances by trying to contact him. Some people don't like to be bothered like that.

As for your question, they get a negative feedback on their profile and repeat offenders are suspended.
