So how much is it?

I don't consider it wasted at all. I could spend it on far worse things like the rest of humanity does, such as drugs, alcohol, tobacco, etc.

hey, what's wrong with drugs, alcohol and tobacco?! ^^

Thank you for your giveaway, WammFayet! :-)
I've lost the count a long time ago but I would say plenty.

I have already been a gamer for a quite a long time so I also have had a long time to spend money on it. That top answer is quite low, but I'll go with it.

I bought some games at full price some years ago, not many anyway. Now I'm still unemployed and I mostly buy from Humble Bundle or Bundle Stars. Sometimes I sell some cards on Steam and buy games if highly discounted. Sometimes I spend 5€ max on a game I'm sure I'll play and enjoy a lot.
I don't really know how much I've spent, probably not more than 500€ during the past 10 years

Is there a way to see how much money one has spent in steam? Or are you all making assumptions?
I spent quite a lot, counting other platforms such as PS and Nintendo haha

Wow, thanks, i didn't know that stats page was available here :)
Yeah, it says i spent like 1700 dollars, which i'm pretty sure hasn't been so much xD

It also stands in your account details on Steam.
Edit:
This could help you, too:

Real money? Zero.
Steam money? Over 2000. On steam, I have spent 3580,88€ for games and items.

You won 3500 € steam cards? You must be the luckiest guy on the world.

Ok, you should probably start reading whole sentences. :P I said I won a steam card, then started trading (...in order to get more money and games).

I spent €966 in total
Nope. Thats the accoutn value not the money spend.

The "Total cost with sales" doesn't account for bundles. There's no way I've spent $21k on my Steam library.
I still spent way too much though.

$500+ in one year. I should stop collecting so many games outside of my wish list just because they have very good review (not that I have time to play them all anyway) and save money for the those most wanted on my wish list instead (which are never and unlikely to be bundled and command a hefty price tag even on sales).

As someone who was a console gamer most of my life the majority of the games were $40-60 each. Plus the tons of consoles I've owned easily cleared $2,000. That's without any PC related gaming. Honestly $2,000 isn't much if you are a gamer. For general entertainment a decent amount of people I know spend 2k on a weekend going out and doing things for fun. If I was someone a lot younger at like 16 and just got a part time job or someone with a status like that then 2k can seem like a lot for gaming.
Over the past year almost everything has been in bundles or very good sales for me. I look at things very differently now as someone older, especially having more insight than some due to knowing a decent amount of people in game development, publishing, and sales. If I know a dev whether it be a AAA or Indie I don't mind spending full price to show support, but games lose value so quickly especially very small indie devs where they could put a $15 price tag on their game and a few days later they drop the price by $5 or even more especially if it's online and even more so if it's a pvp game.

$486 on Steam in 11 1/2 years. Probably somewhere around $50-$100 on other sites. I think I've done pretty well at managing the spending on my hobby, and I wouldn't call almost any it wasted money -- except for maybe my backlog, since there's always another sale that goes lower, time-value of money, etc.

Too much and to fragmented for me to even do the math. My rough estimate would be around 1,5k€ as I tend to buy people non bundled, more expensive games for birthdays and Christmases.

You need to have $100 worth of games to be able to reply here ^^

I noticed that I've been buying more and more games recently and I wondered how much money have I spent since I created my Steam account in 2014. It turned out that it's been quite a lot, considering that I'm a student with no stable income living in a country where the average monthly salary is 3 times lower than in the USA.
If my math is correct, I've spent around 190€ for 341 games (180€ for 219 games if you don't want to count the damn BundleStars Dollar bundles), with the most expensive one being Cities: Skylines for 27,99€ followed by Borderlands 2 for 11,24€. Almost half of it, over 80€, was spent this year.
Now as you can see, my philosophy seems to be "if it costs more than 5€, I'm not buying it". I really have no interest in buying 60€ AAA games when I can have tons of wonderful small games all for the same price. I'm sure there are people who spend much more on video games but for me, this is quite a high number, although I have no regrets. After all, video games are the only thing that makes me happy and is stopping me from ending it all :'')
I didn't count any games I bought before 2014 and my usage of digital distribution such as my The Sims collection that must've cost me hundreds of euros. Ouch
