So how much is it?
Since 2009, I have spent about an average of $20-$25 per month

There you can see it, at leat for Steam.

You will not see anything there. There is a big difference between account value and money spend.

How much money have I spent on video games in my life? I'd say that's a figure with six digits by now...
Comment has been collapsed.
Too much.
I have noticed my spending limits have decreased over time, as more important obligations have surfaced. 10 years ago, I would look at $30 as a great price, and gladly spend it on games I was excited about. Now, I look at $15 and think, "Ehhh, still too expensive. I'll wait for $10."

Starting in the 1980s until now, I'm sure it is easily in the top tier of the poll. Especially if you include inflation. For example Phantasy Star on Sega Master System in 1988 cost $70 which is equivalent to about $150 in today's money.
And if you include cost of PC hardware, consoles, controllers, accessories... i don't even want to know. :P
I hope you'll find some more happiness in your life, don't give up! Good fortune usually happens to us when we are not expecting it.

Too much, I think. Or too much unplayed games (or crap)
My Steam Profile (from SteamDB)
So, true value might be around 5k if I mind all the HB monthly games...
Thanks for the wishlisted game ;)

I don't want to think too hard about it. Steam alone has to be over 1,700 us american dollars - if I think about my lifetime of gaming back when I played on consoles (PS2, 360, and PS4) the number triples.
It's my main hobby, though, and tbh I wouldn't call any of it 'wasted'. I have so many fond memories of my console games, and I was able to trade in the ones I didn't like. According to the BLAEO site, only 5% of my games are marked 'won't play', and a few of them are older versions of games I have that I got for free for buying the original game, so i just don't want to play the same game twice.
Games make me happy and I love them. I don't know what else I'd spend the money on that I'd like just as much.

Over the course of my entire life? Well over 2000€, that's for sure! I got my first taste of gaming in an era when a used game would still set you back about 20-40€. Not that I got a whole lot of games back then, but that should at the very least give you an idea of how long I've been playing games ;)

I think the blood just drained out of my face when I tried to think of how much money I've actually dumped into Steam. Let's give me a break and go with "too much" instead of solid numbers, in my case.
Tbh the most I've spent on a "game" is $20 USD for Hexcels during the summer sale. My income is too nebulous for anything other than bundles and the 75% or more deals that occur during seasonal sales, and my computer only has like 4gb of RAM so I'm safe from wanting to get the new AAAs cos they wouldn't work anyway. I'll be in trouble once I finally replace my computer, though.

When the PS3 came out you could have easily spent 2000€ for the console, 2nd controller and a few games and bit and bobs in a year.

i must have spent more than 1000 EUR, makes more than 4x of my local currency (Turkish Liras) which means a good amount of money. i really dont care how i much spent, i'm happy to play and give some games away :) what irritates me is the nonsense, deceiving, disgusting and greedy pricing system. Especially powerhouses such as Ubisoft, Bethesda, Bandai Namco, 2K (i'm always open to suggestion for expanding the list)... conduct this system very well. If the base prices are not the same as US, then u can be sure that these are even higher! (yep, i exaggerated a bit and i'm damn right to do it!).
Ok, i understand it's not easy to make AAA games, they require serious amount of money and work. But if u make regional pricing systems, doesn't it mean u need to consider the financial dynamics of that country/region? If u ask ppl to spend %20 of the minimum wage (of the country) just for a game, do u really think ppl will buy it? yeah, some dumb trucks like me will still insist to play original games and some other rich men's kids will buy it no matter what. and yeah, it's still a profit for u, right? ask ridiculous prices and then complain of piracy... so proper, i guess!
Thank God, there is a CDPR reality against all manipulating arguments. They made the best game ever and still asking the humble prices for it. That example only would be a certificate of shame for all greedy companies, if they really did CARE game industry and gamers. Long live the CDPR, long live the Humble Bundle and similar gamer friendly companies.
Sorry to hijack ur thread buddy, but i never can get rid of that sh*t out of my mind, especially when i encounter threads about its financial side.

Definitely in the top tier. My gifting habit to SG has fuelled a big increase in my spending on games in the last year. I blame all of you on SG for it :P

I've saved so much money when I've discovered bundle sites. And even more after discovering SG. When it comes to buying games for myself, cos the same two things have worked for me completely opposite when it comes to buying games for gifts :P I think the most expensive games I've bought since my first game on Steam were gifts for SG :P

I noticed that I've been buying more and more games recently and I wondered how much money have I spent since I created my Steam account in 2014. It turned out that it's been quite a lot, considering that I'm a student with no stable income living in a country where the average monthly salary is 3 times lower than in the USA.
If my math is correct, I've spent around 190€ for 341 games (180€ for 219 games if you don't want to count the damn BundleStars Dollar bundles), with the most expensive one being Cities: Skylines for 27,99€ followed by Borderlands 2 for 11,24€. Almost half of it, over 80€, was spent this year.
Now as you can see, my philosophy seems to be "if it costs more than 5€, I'm not buying it". I really have no interest in buying 60€ AAA games when I can have tons of wonderful small games all for the same price. I'm sure there are people who spend much more on video games but for me, this is quite a high number, although I have no regrets. After all, video games are the only thing that makes me happy and is stopping me from ending it all :'')
I didn't count any games I bought before 2014 and my usage of digital distribution such as my The Sims collection that must've cost me hundreds of euros. Ouch
