Looks Awesome! But I also said that about the first instalment but the game is too hard and has funky controls so I rage quit and never played again. Is it worth me picking up the second would I need to play the first for it to make sense? Or would I just rage quit it?

May be worth reading this and waiting for the bugs to be fixed. The guy who created DSFix for Dark Souls is also working on modding DS2.

I haven't tried this pc port of the 2nd one, but i played the first one for a while on pc before buying it for ps3. Mouse+keyboard doesn't really work well with the action rpg genre. If you go for the pc version of any soul game i would recommend getting a controller.

I tried out both and I actually prefer the mouse and keyboard. I feel too slow with the controller!

I think I just found out why its so hard! Apparently you have to exhange souls for stat upgrades I never done this i must be constantly underlevel haha

EDIT: I did wonder what the whole retrieval thing is about

hahah oh wow, you might want to look up some guides about how the game works in general.
will save you a lot of rage quits!

Retrieval: If you die you leave a bloodstain near your place of death, when you touch your bloodstain you get your souls back that you lost in your pervious life. If you die again before touching your bloodstain it will be overridden by a new bloodstain, your souls of your death before will be lost.

Didn't they explain how you level up in the tutorial?

After you find the first bonfire, there will be a series of mist doors on your left and right. These are the tutorial levels.

The undead asylum is the tutorial for the game, that's why there are messages on the floor that explain you the controls. I think that when you reached the bonfire they explained you how to level up. Anyway, when you sit at the bonfire, it cleary says "Level up" in the menu.

my advice: dont rely on leveling your stats in DS1, its much more important to play smart and upgrade equipment. Over-leveling gives you diminished returns per level, and pvp matchmaking is based on it.

But that's probably something you won't have to worry about until later. Good luck!

I'll just post my review for Dark Souls II here:

I played the original Demon Souls a long time ago and gave up after the first couple levels (I think I beat the first boss! Yay!). After skipping Dark Souls 1, I reckoned it was time to try out Dark Souls 2 and see if it had changed at all. I can't say if it's more difficult than Dark Souls 1, but it's still definitely a fun game. Remember, this is coming from someone with little experience with this hardcore RPG genre :P

I'm advancing through the game at a surprisingly fast pace, and so far the real challenge for me has been understanding the different stats about which weapons work and which don't. Then understanding the right tactics for fighting different enemies and managing your consumable potions and stamina. Dark Souls 2 focuses so much on core gameplay and that's why I think so many people love it. It's not about grabbing a sword and slashing things apart, it's about understanding when to slash and when to not. Might sound a bit basic but it's more complicated than it sounds! You will die a lot, but you'll certainly have a lot of fun along the way. I am so far!

You should go back to Demon's Souls at some point. It's great! Things are a bit different, though.

My review on Dark Souls II on PC (I use keyboard and mouse, I misclick a lot):

Got rekt, got rekt, got rekt, got rekt, got rekt, got rekt, got rekt, bought a mace for 1.2k souls, got rekt, got rekt, rekt some thingies, got rekt, got rekt, beat a boss, got rekt, got rekt, rage quit, got rekt, got rekt, rage quit. I'll try more later.

I gave the keyboard & mouse controls a fair shake, but when you have to walk up to an NPC and press shift+attack to talk to them, the developers are trying to hurt you. It's almost as bad as the button for sliding quickly down ladders becoming the button for jumping off the ladder and falling to your death.

So I used a PS3 controller instead.

My review: It's a very good game that feels a bit more like DeS than a DkS clone. I like the way health and humanity works. I am in love with the Fire Longsword you can get really early on. I accidentally started as a Deprived, and while they were a good choice in previous games because they had good stats all-round, now they just start out ten levels or more behind everyone else. I want a reinforced club, the weapon of champions. There are hero in a half-shell knights. People should buy it.

I agree, the shift+click is incredibly annoying. I sometimes even hit the right mouse button by mistake and end up using a lifegem >_< Despite this, I still prefer the mouse and keyboard! I feel like I have more control over my character during those tense getthefuckoutoftheway moments, AKA dodging a piece of metal twice your size.

I wanted to see what the default controls were like! Then I switched to a controller, because part of being the PC master race is being able to use the most appropriate controller for each game.

As a PC gamer i often refuse to use a gamepad. I admit there are games that are better played on PC with a gamepad (like FIFA, Street Fighter, etc). But when a developer comes to PC with a game on which you are forced to play as if it was on a XBox console... that's just pathetic. Not to mention there is a latency between the keyboard/mouse and ingame actions. Dark Souls 2 is a good console port, but as a developer, have the decency to port it for the god damn PC interface...
