Just type:
steam://checksysreqs/game-ID
where game-ID is the ID shown on the addressbar on the store page of each game and Steam will automatically check if your PC can run the game.

For example: Dishonored
steam://checksysreqs/205100

It is accurate a lot of the time but it's not always accurate. It's said many times to me that I can't run a game when I can run it on the highest settings... so just keep that in mind when using it.

Well the requirements are set by the developers and Steam just compares them with your system specs , so it sure won't be 100% accurate but it's kinda useful :)

Marathon series isn't very hardware-demanding, I'm sure it could handle it.

it doesnt work. right now i'm on a pc that wont run Dishonored even if I try, because it's Windows XP and the minimum is windows vista, but it says my computer meets the minimum requirements.

You don't need Vista/7 to run dishonored. I have XP on my rig and I've beaten dishonored on it. Unless they've changed the specs since I played...

Edit:
Just checked specs on the steam store page, it says it requires vista/7 OS minimum but it's running on DirectX 9 which is still within the auspices of XP

Developers have recently begun listing Vista/7 as a minimum req, even when their game runs on XP. Probably due to them not testing it on any XP machines. It's rather annoying.

yes, I agree with the other comments, I think it does not work properly... it says I can run Dishonored, Skyrim, Far Cry 3 and Defiance on my crappy laptop (never in a million years -.-)

I've frequently played games with graphics cards that are nowhere near the level required

Well, to be honest it doesn't say you can play it, it says you meet the minimum requirements and you can run it, which means starting it and seeing at least a frame =)

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat...

No, I refuse to believe this PC can run Dishonored. I'ma do some other checks about games that I know are working or not, brb.

Okay, so according to this little bastard, my rig could actually run these:

Magicka, Crysis, Metro 2033, Arma 3, The Witcher 2, CS: GO

My system specifics: Geforce 6600 series GPU, AMD Athlon 2800+ 1600 Mhz CPU, 1 GB RAM.

Yeah, this thing ain't so accurate. While this PC can surprise me with what it can still run decently (Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light comes to my mind, I was actually able to finish it on this without lagging), I for one know that CS: GO and Magicka aren't running on this, and there's no way fucking ARMA 3 would even get to a menu with a setup like this.

It seems flawed. It tells my laptop can run games it most certainly can not. I think if the graphics card/chip has not been mentioned in the system requirements, it automatically assumes it can run on minimal settings.

So I have 1GB of RAM, and a graphics card with 256MB of memory, and Shader Model 2.0. But it looks like I can run Borderlands 1 and 2, The Witcher 2, Counter-Strike Global Offensive, Far Cry 3, Crysis 2, Dishonored...

For those who have browsers that don't let this trick work. just make a shortcut on your desktop with this steam address as the target.

It, just like that system requirements lab website, probably sees shared video ram as dedicated video ram, giving an inaccurate reading.
