respectable dev companies always region locks their game because in countries like ru discount can be 80% and thats alot of money lost for them is not steam decision but the dev that requests for region locks
thief and borderlands presequel are not region locked that heavily :P

Isn't it more than 190 Euro? But I agree, buying a AAA game at release here would cost you(an average Joe/Ion) a lot of money that you could buy food for 1 week with, if you don't really eat a lot though.

You and the reddit thread only gave examples of mainstream games from big publishers. What about indie games? Do they get region locked too? If not, then it's the fault of publishers.

The funny thing is that publishers are always greedy, but when people exploit the fuck out of them is totally fine and legit.

Whats that plugin showing you the lowest price? Seems interesting and useful.
I dont really agree with region locking, also I dont agree with the fact that they are setting the same price in € and dollars, juicing money from Europe.
Im from Czech republic, our currency are Crowns, 1 dollar=about 20 Crowns, 1€= about 27 Crowns - SEE THE DIFFERENCE?
If game cost 60 bucks, its 1200 Crowns, but if game costs 60€ its 1620 (81 dollars..'nuff said, Pirate Bay, here I go again). Fuck that, thats why Im pirating games that have same price in € and dollars

Huh. Odd, I bought a retailer game from my shop for South Park.
The price is a hella lot cheaper.
If south park was 60 dollars,
it would be 180 ringgit. I bought it for 120 ringgit though. (40 dollars)
I gotten the australian version though. DAMN CENSORSHIP!

As a fellow Singaporean, I need to clarify that this thread certainly qualifies as FUD, it has been known for a few years that some AAA games are region-locked on release, one unlisted include Hitman Absolution.
As mentioned, some AAA games are indeed region locked, however, discounted prices are the same be it for the US store version or the Asia version. One will only be affected if one trades games actively.
You need to know that some games may contain content deemed sensitive to certain countries, like tropico for example.
There is NO Singapore region lock, but rather an Asia classification.
Stop the FUD, not a single indie game is region locked.
EDIT :
If you really want to complain, at least find some legit reason how Steam is actually screwing people up. For example ask those living in New Zealand about Steam prices, that is the actual screwing of people, not something trivia like this

The main issue is with price, why am I paying the same price for a "crippled" product? Yes, it is not severely crippled, but that still doesn't make sense.
While your second point might be true, I don't see why Borderlands or Assasin's Creed need to have region locks since they are uncensored and are definitely not politically sensitive.
Yes, people living in New Zealand and Australia are getting screwed. We certainly do not want to end up like them do we? But that's exactly what's going to happen if we remain silent on this issue. One thing leads to another and next thing you know we are paying more. Just ask the Europeans.
Changed the title for clarity.

There is no need to panic: games sold in your region are not region locked - they are just cursed with "AllowCrossRegionTradingAndGifting-No". After you add a game to your library - it's no different from a row/ww one.
And meanwhile Ru/Cis customers have to live with the fact that quite a few of their games are useless outside ru/cis countries - this is a real region lock.

Im not sure on specifics (about asia or each of those games) but those are the common other 'reasons' besides a game being banned for some content:
-Ping, lag, internet connection. Some publishers seens to avoid any possible hickups with its online features. Surely just few of the games listed have any online feature but that could be related.
-TAXES. They way certain countries tax digital goods, wich i guess steam reverts to the publishers as well. Not sure on the logic behind it existing on retail cheaper then a digital version as some listed here, but some funky taxing laws are surely behind the scenes. Here in Brazil for a long time we counted on imported games that weren't supposed to be sold around here, that is, retail stores going out and buying the games directly(that caused then to be more expensive in return).
-Specific 'possible offensive' content. Stuff in some level or such thing. Wich generally ties to next:
-Plans for a future localized version
-Other obscure specific laws, wich generally explain some localized versions as well. Like being obligated to refund.
Theres one more possible culprit that im only guessing, just a theory...
Is that games more and more nowadays collect lots of data that is sent back to the devs, helping then understand player behaviour and such to improve the very game, sequels and even valuable information that serves for other future games.
Not sure if its hard to filter the data between markets or if simply they're not focusing on your market yet.
Could also be about the strain on their servers used to collect this very data.

Can I still play the game if I buy within these countries then move outside it?

Derisory Lee ordered it because Singaporeans reported him for scamming. He's been scamming since 2004.

You just noticed this? It's been like this for months for SEA. I got excited for a while too because I thought it would mean we would get games cheaper. Good thing they are only activation restrictions. You can still play them anywhere (for now).

Long story short, I live in South East Asia, or more specifically Singapore, and for some unknown reason Steam decides to start region locking games.
It doesn't make any sense since
Guess I will spend my Steam wallet by buying keys from now on. Even when it is the exact same price. 29 keys = $60 but without region lock.
My guess is that Valve will soon start rolling out region locks for every region even if the price stays the same. Why they do it, I don't know.
Should we be worried? Or just close one eye and switch retailers?
