Only own and game on a desktop.
Nowadays you could use a laptop but I'm still sceptical about heat generation/cooling (especially when you take it to bed and it sits on the blanket or smth) and battery life.
For me a laptop would be used mainly due to more comfort or when travelling. In both scenarios it's IMHO not suited for gaming.
Getting comfy and still be able to do serious gaming with mouse+mousepad you would need a good setup and half of the time the power cable would be connected also.
In terms of desktop FPS. I have OC'ed 980 SLI (since I ran into the 4GB problem of my previous 970 SLI) and well... fps for example in BF4 don't drop under 100 with everything max, most of the time its over 150 (Everything on ultra with max. AA)
In LoL its somewhere around 700.
Far Cry 3 was on the 970's around 100-60 with everything maxxed + 8xMSAA so it should be around 75-120 now

Desktop, I'm using ATI HD 7790, Dragon Age Inquisition at medium with constant 60fps no AA, never tried on high but Raptr insists on high-ultra. I always turn off AA though.

2 years old 17" laptop Asus N76V. I still can play new games on medium in lower resolution - 1600x900 or 720p in worst case and it's sound great. But when I buy it, it costs like 2 similar desktops. It's posible to buy laptop for gaming and use it long time, but it's costs a lot of money and you can't upgrade only GPU. In thouse days good CPU, RAM, HDD/SSD and etc. can service you at least 4 years (usualy even more if you buy the best for the moment), but GPU max 2 with compromise.

Desktop I put together black friday of 2014. Farcry 4, shadows of mordor and AC:Unity are are beautifully smooth on ultra @1440p. Worth the $$$.

Currently, on my Laptop. I miss my desktop but I can't lug around my Battlestation with me as I have to travel a lot due to my work. Its a 2 year old laptop, not really a gaming laptop but got one of those desktop replacements, quite heavy but it had what I needed at the time. I hate the amount of heat generation on Laptops but I have no other choice.
As for fps, its not much, I get around 55 to 60 fps if I'm lucky ( and that is usually for older games or MOBA like LoL etc ) but it'll drop to 10 or even 5 for heavy duty games like Firefall etc

Android tablet gamer here. Unfortunately many games use the tablet's native resolution, which means that for example I have to set KOTOR graphical options to low just because my tablet has 2560x1600 resolution. Even then, FPS could be better in some places. Still, it's enjoyable enough.

Desktop is best for pc gaming but I am sure a lot of people are using laptops because of comfort.
How many of are you using laptops? And what is the fps you get with which gpu?
