Yes. And now go play it. I'm dead serious. Unless you are a COD fanatic you will love it and for the rest of your life worship Valve Corporation.
Without it, from now on your life shall be empty and meaningless. You will feel like Charlie Sheen or something.

I've never played any of the Half Life games, and I can't say I'm feeling any desire to do so either.
So I'll say no it's not shameful. Some people don't care for shooters.

You don't have to be a fan of shooters to recognize the greatness of this game. I honestly hated any form of first person games and played JRPG's exclusively up until a friend forced me to play Half-Life 2. Now, I agree with those who say it is shameful for a gamer to not even give it a chance. There are very few games that can match it's greatness.

The idea doesn't much enthuse me, I've played other shooters everyone would swear up and down is the greatest thing since sliced bread that turned out to be dismal.
Quake 3 for instance managed to be less entertaining then watching paint dry. A pretty remarkable feat.
Bioshock is slightly better then that.
Granted, on the odd occasion games manage to transcend genres and are incredibly good despite all rational logic says you should hate them. (The old Freespace 1/2 exemplifies that for me)
Broadly speaking though, there is no game ever that has or will appeal to everyone.
It's worth dabbling outside of your preferred genres on the rare occasion, but I'm content to keeping that a rarity. It's almost never a rewarding experience. Though again, miracles do happen.

I would compare your comment here to a cooking analogy. Perhaps a person doesn't like pasta. They may look at an exquisitely prepared alfredo and say "That looks like a fine bit of pasta." But when it comes to eating it, it's still pasta.
I rather doubt that there's never been a game you just weren't interested in playing.

In before mandatory "Anyone play episode 3?" remark.
It's forgivable. But by very little. I'm up to episode 2.

Eh, I've not really played it either, and I have it (as part of The Orange Box).
Played about an hour of it (apparently, I think I must have been afk for a while and left it on though), and then stopped for whatever reason. Later uninstalled it because I had literally no space left on my PC and haven't bothered to reinstall it on my new PC. I'm sure I'll get round to playing it sometime xD

Is it shameful that I have never beaten much less played Half Life 2?
