Putting money into things I won't see for months at best always worries me. I funded Wasteland, but some of them just seem like it'd be a risk. Like that Remee one really interests me. But $80 is a good chunk of change for me, and that's for something I might not see at all. I like the idea behind kickstarter. But there are just a lot of niggling details that bug me.

I haven't been using kickstarter long enough to know what happens if a project is successfully funded but fails to deliver the promised goods. It's run through Amazon payments, and kickstarter itself has a great reputation, I doubt you'd have a terrible time getting a refund in such an event. I know that your payment isn't processed until the time limit is up AND the project has reached its goal... so there's no fear where that's concerned. I've never had an issue preordering something that interests me, and I'd like to see this crowdsourcing trend continue.

Well, I like the idea of crowdsourcing for projects. And, while I don't care for pre-ordering that much, it's nice to get the product cheaper by helping them fund it. But what annoys me is that you can't really know when something will be done. Like Wasteland 2. They only started real development in the last month or so when they knew they'd be able to afford it. That means that I'll have to wait at least a year and a half based on their estimated completion time, and perhaps longer. It's just something that makes me kinda iffy about doing it, especially when the project would obviously be funded anyways.
As for Kickstarter having a great reputation, that's fine. And I understand there's no doubt about the funding itself. The problem is being sure it's not a scam. With such a rise in the projects, I'm worried we'll see more of these in the coming months (which I'm not going to get into the oversaturation that I think's starting to come up from the Kickstarter popularity boom). Getting a refund might not sound like a big deal of course. But when a project has $200,000+ put into it, then the 'company' in question takes the money and runs or just can't afford paying it back, I doubt Kickstarter or Amazon can afford paying it back when people realize they've been scammed.
There's also the fact some projects aren't there to fund the full game. Takedown was only meant to fund the Alpha of the game and show there's interest in the genre. What if they can't get anyone to back the rest of the game when the Alpha is finished, so it stays in project limbo? The people who backed it won't be happy, the company likely won't be able to afford finishing it if it takes them that much to get the alpha done, and that'll leave a lot of people out in the cold.

All valid points. I suppose I'll cross those bridges when I get to them. Until then, I'll throw some cash at cool projects, and be pleasantly surprised when they're published, almost like a gift to my future me. Oh, and also, I'll enjoy my really sweet pen in the meantime.

I agree. I like kickstarter, I think it's a step in the right direction. I just think it needs to make some changes or other sites need to fill in. I'd really like to see more emphasis on companies that are funded and do successful to pay more forward. Right now it's optional for funded projects to pledge 5% to other kickstarters, but it would be nice to see that up'd a bit and more incentive for projects looking to be backed to do that.

You can add the STEAM tag for Police Warfare.
However, I would remove the tag for Shadowrun because even if they plan to release the game on Steam, they have not confirmed that the backers will get their copy of the game on Steam. Quotation from the FAQ: "That's the plan. We have yet to determine if Backers will get their free version from STEAM, though. Stay tuned.".

If you could add Faster Then Light to closed and succesfull (will be released on steam)

The Banner Saga just reached 650K. It will allow the devs to "to add a much wider range of special events that can occur as you travel and really expand the scope of the finale to make it the biggest, most rewarding conclusion we can".

Since there will be no Kickstarter for the 2 and 3, you won't be able to get them so cheap as 10$ each. I guess the prices would be more like 15 / 25$, if not just around 30.
They hope that the sales fro The Banner Saga 1 funds the 2, and sales from the 2 fund the 3.

Well at least it can't be as low as 10 / 15$ since it is a reward for kickstarting the game.

The Banner Saga concluded a few hours ago with 723 886 $ in the end. The initial funds required were 100 000$ .
No need to mention the project was successful.

Thank you for adding Grim Dawn to the list. It's halfway to it's goal now and looking on track to meet it by the end date. I just hope they get enough exposure to make it past that goal so they can make the game even better.

Valdis Story funding finished successfully
Boot Hill Heroes links in the OP are both currently pointing to SteamGifts threads
Police Warfare Kickstarter still seems to be cancelled, with no reason given
And last but not least, Shadowrun Returns is in it's final hours

Two guys SpaceVenture is worthy of your cash of course, but the real underdog you all should be backing is Tex Murphy - Project Fedora.
If you don't know Tex Murphy, you should be shot - if you don't want to be shot, then head to gog.com and pick up those classic FMV-era gems.

One non-game Kickstarter I really think is a great idea is Zombie-Based Learning: Geography taught in Zombie Apocalypse.
But for a game, I really hope more people pledge to Spate. It's a really beautiful platformer and it's struggling to get to its $12,000 goal.

Hey now. There are so many Kickstarter threads, many of which are poorly titled or buried in "what's your favorite __?" threads; I wanted to make one mega thread where they can all be itemized. Will update as frequently as possible, please post a new comment here if there is a kickstarter thread posted on steamgifts and I haven't included it yet. As this is a gaming community I will give gaming projects priority in the list, but have included a non-gaming/interesting section at the end. Thanks.
Live projects that have surpassed their goal:
