Just did mine today.

Bought the Rockstar Bundle on Green Man Gaming this morning, already owning some of the titles. I then proceeded to activate the keys for the games I didn't own and was left with some spares. Rather than copy/pasting my newly spare keys straight into into the file I keep them in, I decided to check them first.

I often try keys for stuff I already own, looking for the "Product already owned message" just so I can see that the keys sent were for the correct games. Well, I'll not be doing that any more! Already owned Max Payne 3 and you can imagine my surprise when my Max Payne 3 key actually activated.

Turns out I had a Max Payne 3 (ROW) on my account and this new key was for Max Payne 3 (WW). Whilst I knew there were different regions, I didn't know you could actually activate 2 keys of the same game from different regions on the same account. Total waste of a key. Lol, what an idiot.

So what's the dumbest thing everyone else has done? Anyone else been as stupid as me?

Created an account for the Humble THQ Bundle, one year later 220 games owned and a lot of money and time into the sink. Fun! :)

Giving the trust towards developers who release Early Access games, believing everything they described, to then realised they lied. Before the game even reached retail it went Free 2 Play, losing around 25-50EUR per game. While no single update or fix got done.

Also developers who have no respect towards their playerbase, releasing a game for let's say 20EUR, to see the same game 1 week after it went on Steam on 50-75% already.

How did you lose an account? Did they ban people for something back then?

I didn't lose anything, but I did something really silly a while ago... I've put a trading card for sale on the community market, but I set the price to something like $300... Took me a few days to realize my mistake. :P
Other than that, the stupidest thing I've ever done was joining Steam. :-/

Steam should really add the feature Good old Games (gog.com) already has. You can enter a Key and get a overview of what it activates, if it's still usable and stuff and then have so click on activate. I don't get why Steam doesn't add this feature - maybe to prevent key trading or at least hinder it.

Using cheat engine for singleplayer and then switch to multiplayer on a VAC secured server without closing the Cheat Engine client first; i don't use that account anymore, that "VAC ban" red sign haunts you forever.

At least three times that I can recall...mistakenly redeemed the keys for games that I already owned on other gaming platform(s) and had planned to give away.

I keep missing sales because I wait till the last day. When Steam says 'Ends on the 21st' it means 'The last day to actually get the sale is the 20th' and APPARENTLY I CANNOT REMEMBER THIS.

That's because everyone else says it ends on the 21st and it ends at 11:59PM on the 21st.

Going on steam during the sales, picked up so many games that I have yet to play and probably will never get around to playing...

I signed up. My wallet has never forgiven me.

In all seriousness (not that that wasn't really)... my first beggar actually got a game off me. I was too nice then or something, but now I want to kick myself for ever giving in. Guy continued to beg afterwards and even complained at me for saying no (...and to add to that, he noticed me buying something and complained I bought myself something, but wouldn't buy him something. He was serious). Lesson learned. Ah well...
