My ISP gave me a Docsis 2 router, instead of the 3 I actually bought, and then promptly dropped support for 2 [they've got a local monopoly and do a lot of crappy things (that they don't always recompense you on) on a regular basis, all while overcharging by quite a bit compared to their branches in other locations. It's a mess.].
In any case, it's mostly not too big a deal- doesn't affect things much other than a bit of subpar performance.
However, ever since Google updated their backend with their HTML5 integration, google-based sites [and ONLY them (well, and torrenting)] crash my modem. It's not an issue with google search, there's not enough data there, but google images and youtube both crash my modem straight up. Since youtube auto-cancels the clip on a net loss, rather than letting you pause, reconnect, and continue buffering, it's not like I can do an aggravating on-and-off-again with it to watch anything, either.
It's honestly kinda hilarious, since I can smoothly stream 1080p video on other sites, but youtube crashes my net with the lowest resolution setting. -.-
Well, it's an issue of how the data is dumped toward my modem, and its inability to handle the format, so it makes sense that sites that don't take that approach would still work, it's just still a silly contrast.
Anyway, too busy saving my finances toward a new computer before this one finishes dying to worry about slightly stuttery internet and an inability to watch youtube- think those are pretty minor things by comparison :'P
Besides, I've won so many amazing games lately, and my computer is so near dead that it can no longer run them, so I gotta get a new computer soon, 'cause they're taunting me :'(

Something doesn't compute here. You are calling this device a "modem", if it's really a modem (and nothing else) then it should handle the traffic only up to level 2 of the ISO/OSI reference model, this means that it doesn't know what kind of traffic is passing through (not even at the network layer). If, on the other hand, your device is what is commonly referred as modem/router (layers 3/4 and up) then it could actually interfere with the connection if misconfigured, but here you are talking about disruption of a precise application protocol, this is more a level 7 type of issue, maybe deep packet inspection gone bad?
Anyway, one common issue with random protocols not working is a bad mtu/mss, packet fragmentation is subtle because it doesn't always shows up, but when it does nothing works as expected.

I was quoting it as it was told to me, I'm afraid my time in networking is long past.
Apparently a good handful of users had issue when Google made the swap, though?
In any case, all I can reliably assert is the acting functionality of the two Google sites not working properly, and the fact that I was given an outdated modem instead of the one I paid for.
If you can find another basis for the acting functionality of my internet [especially since Google worked fine before their backend change], by all means, go for it.
The end result of needing to swap the modem out seems like it'll likely be the same, however :/

Just a question
Hint : プロモーション映像(日本語)means "Promotion Video ( Japanese )"
Edit; I just found out I made an error. So if you try to answer in Japanese there's a semi-space between the names. So you would have to write なになに なんとか
