Posted by the official Steam Community Market group:

"We shipped a change earlier today to reduce the number of cases confirmation is required to list an item on the market. Items that typically sell for under $1.00 USD will no longer require confirmation when the list price is reasonably within the median price, but confirmation will still be required once many of those cheaper items are listed. Confirmation will still be required on all rare and valuable items.

We'll be watching for any problems with this change, and make adjustments if needed."

nice. I guess saves time for those with tons of cases and cards. Looks at inventory

Will this also mean no stupid ass Steamguard Mobile Authenticator confirmation?
Since I might actually be able to use the market again after 2 years of having to be a damn psychic looking 15 days in advance.

I just added some cards to the market and there were no mobile confirmation required but I can't tell you if this also means that the trade hold for people without steam guard is disabled.

I just tried.
I got the "YOU WILL BE HELD 15 DAYS!" message yet despite it got listed instantly.
I sure hope they don't change that... well, time to dump my inventory.

That message is probably just a bug, listing cards should be instant now.

However, it seems trade hold (not to confuse with market hold) works exactly the same way as before.

Actually it seems I was only able to list a SINGLE item without email-confirmation and 15 day wait period... all following items; still stuck :(

So sad. Got my hopes up and Valve fails again :/.

That's strange, it doesn't make any sense to exclude users without mobile authenticator from this. When it says "no confirmation", it shouldn't make a difference whether you have the authenticator or not.

Let's hope you're still experiencing bugs, it's Valve we're talking about after all.

Makes some degree of sense, I'm afraid. Accounts without an authenticator are less secure, so an easier target for hackers who would then want to sell everything in your inventory to get funds into the steam wallet that they can use to buy stuff on the market that they have put up themselves from real accounts, which means they can profit.

For the safety of your inventory it makes sense that people without a strong 2FA method is limited in how easy it is to sell "all the things".

Annoying to be sure, but I would be surprised if they removed that.

When you put it like that, it indeed makes sense. You're probably right, I didn't take everything into consideration.

But if things work as intended, they should specify that these new changes only apply to users with mobile authenticator, because the original post doesn't say anything about that.

Except when you add in it really doesn't matter much. People without SGMA don't get hacked, those with get hacked, some additional people now GET hacked since they are far more lax with phone security than their PC.
It really still boils down to people, so forcing it on everyone is still a bad idea all around. You force it on the people who need it (got hacked) then gie everyone else the option.
Valve however, doesn't do that. And it's pretty damn bad for a lot of us.

Have you tried WinAuth or Steam Desktop Authenticator? Worked fine for me when I did not have a phone.

I generally use Steam on 3 platforms; My PC (for gaming), tablet and my GF's laptop.
I'm pretty worried if I use any of these I would be locked out of the 2 other platforms, so I'm not using it.

I use WinAuth and I use 3 workplace computers, 2 at home, and 1 at the folks. It is a portable program. :)

You can easily put WinAuth or SteamDesktopAuthenticator on multiple PCs, and ArchiSteamFarm exists too. But if you're at a friend's house and want a code to do something on your tablet, perhaps a portable authenticator indeed helps you. YMMV.

Nice, this will come in handy during sales when I'm selling batches of cards, confirming 10 or more items in a row on the app is just painful cos the damn thing is not what I'd call stable or fast.

Finally. Nothing like selling event cards for 0,1€ and confirming every single one. People that use bots and have hundreds of accounts will make it also faster, and Valve servers will be less stressed to send and receive confirmations.

Excellent news! The change made sense from Valve's perspective but it felt far too annoying and restrictive when you just want to sell a bunch of crappy $0.04 cards.

so... to understand it correctly... let's say somebody hack into my acc and sell an item that costs on market about 50USD and lists it for 0.05€ it will go without confirmation?

But hey, that's amazing, cards can be sold easily again.

"within the median price"
"still be required on all rare and valuable items"

Not working, still getting the 15 day delay.

Btw, "...but confirmation will still be required once many of those cheaper items are listed. Confirmation will still be required on all rare and valuable items."

So basically everything remains the same.

Hm I guess that might be why I couldn't list anything in the market last night. Would be about time for this change, I was sick and tried of constantly getting locked out of steam because I dared to confirm too many market listings at once.

Good for people who didn't already use PC authenticators (WA, SDA, ASF) or perhaps whatever third party implementations there are on mobile. I hope their 'media price' detection really works so that hacked-into accounts are not more easily plundered now.

ASF does mobile authentication emulation? I've been trying to figure out a way to use 2FA but I don't use a cell phone and the bluestacks method seems to have gone broken.

Have you a suggestion, or did I merely stumble onto a user with info but not necessarily the details I need? (⌐■_■)

https://github.com/JustArchiNET/ArchiSteamFarm/wiki/Two-factor-authentication

Once you've downloaded the good file from your android phone/bluestacks/winauth/steamdesktopauthenticator, it's just a matter of writing "!2faok" or "!2fa"

Yeah, ASF has "always" offered mobile auth support; you would set it up by first getting SDA/Winauth and copying the files over to ASF, but you do need a cellphone to receive a text on. Valve want a phone number associated with the account.

You can use your authenticator identity in as much auth software as you want at the same time. On paper you can have Winauth, Steam Desktop Authenticator and ArchiSteamFarm all generating auth codes or confirming trades at the same time (running from multiple PCs in multiple countries if that's your thing).

Most of this software can auto-confirm trades, or one-click batch confirm all outstanding market listing and trades.

I guess I can always use a friend/family member's phone. Somebody who is trustworthy ୧༼ಠ益ಠ༽୨

My home phone number is on my account, and it CAN receive text-to-landline but I don't know if Valve would be able to use that.

it CAN receive text-to-landline

Try, sounds like it should work. Perhaps report how it went.
Just don't share phone # with anyone who plays MP FPS and might want to cheat, since VAC bans are contagious among co-users of a number.
