I just notice that most games have no contribution requirement, thus a lot of people can take and enter every giveway without contributing to the community.

It's not like you gain anything by having more people enter to win the games you post... 10 people or 1000 people it's the same thing for the person posting the game.

Shouldn't we put higher contribution requirement to make sure those giving away games are rewarded?

It's a gifting community. Most of the times you don't get rewarded by gifting since then it wouldn't be gifting I guess.

Love playblink... It isn't full of exploiters, the sites admins actually run a tight ship unlike sg, the giveaways are fun, it's isnt full of bundle game keys... Only thing better about sg, is that it implements groups.

Well even if people put $0.01 as a requirement they're still rewarding other contributors. Not everyone can afford to giveaway games as much as other people can, and I'm guessing they take that into consideration.

Because if You would rise required contribution higher and higher every now and then this site would end up with just two users with contribution 10000000$ and setting required contribution in their giveaways 1 dollar less.

WHole purpose of this site was to gift things to ppl. Not to give games away as a reward for ......

I think the same as well. Some people are new to this site, can you imagine how it'd be like if everyone put up $50 giveaways and nobody has a chance of entering? That would be pretty messed up.

Some people don't want to bother contributing unless they're able to get a chance to win.

Some people with no contributions could easily just not have any money to buy games (like me).

I've used store credit for my current gift, and my previous gift was a result of a pre-order back when i had a few bucks.

Well technically they are not necessarily rich, they are people who are generously giving away games they could have traded. So don't tarnish them by simply calling them "rich people". There are plenty of rich who don't contribute anything.

I posted a few games with a requirement of 0.02$. That's not much, but at least i know they are going to people who at least gave something back and are not complete leeches. I think if we see more requirement, people would be encouraged to give more to hit a certain threshold, which means more games for the poor in the end.

Yes, there are people who don't have the money to contribute. But if your account is 3000$ worth, you can't complain about that. I don't say that you have to contribute, it's up to you. But that is definitely not an excuse.

Yes even people with accounts with lots of games can be poor. I have no income for example but am darn lucky that I have a spouse who will just about gift me any game i ask for (ok i ask when games are on sale thus increasing my chances considerably :D Asking for giveaways though is another thing, as a friend of yours would likely not pay so that you can gift a random stranger.

Not everyone has money to gift games... They simply buy their games for fun and they reach the $100 value to register here... (like me), i giveaway everything I have that Im not going to play, instead of trading it, but it's not because i have a lot, i do it because i simply dont need more and someone else would enjoy playing my game

See I don't understand why people are seeing this in full black and white...

Of course it's a gift... and even with higher requirement guess what, it is STILL a gift. You are giving it for free, and you have a very low chance of winning anything. The requirement just means that you choose a little bit more who gets the game, with higher requirement you increase the chances that a generous contributor gets the gift instead of people who just register without helping.

Why should someone be excluded purely because they don't have the money to buy extra games just to give away? I would never put a requirement on a giveaway because it's not fair to say one group of people can have it and another can't, I don't see why people care so much about contribution, fair enough have it on your profile to inflate your ego but I don't really see the point past that

Most times, people put requirements to avoid leechers who accept your gift and mark as "not received". Or those who say "that's a shitty game, but it's better than nothing, right?". Yeah, it's kinda surprising some guys are assholes even to receive free stuff.

This. People that contribute are more likely to understand what it's like to give things away and appreciate it more. Also tends to avoid getting people who don't understand the site, or dont speak english.

Also, this site wouldn't exist without gifters. Anyone can buy a $1 bundle and spread the love.

I sometimes set the contribution requirement on my giveaways to $0.01. Sometimes, it's nothing. But even if I was giving away Skyrim (not happening, haha), I don't think I'd set the requirement higher than maybe $20. If that. I don't see a reason to. If I want to make a giveaway where the entrants have better odds, I'll make a group giveaway.

I guess you are kidding. People who do not contribute at all are not that healthy for sites like this, although it doesn't really matter, some of them maybe tell their friends about this site who might contribute then etc.
The system itself is just meh, how often have I read comments from people complaining; "damn, this giveaway is $98.23 and I'm 57 cents too short" or something like that. It would be easier to stagger the contributor requirements like '$0 - Open for all' or $5/10/50/100 contr. value needed'. There isn't really a reason to allow any random value to be set, other than for including/excluding certain people. And that should belong to private/group giveaways then.

TL;DR

This beer is nice.

Give out DLC keys and games they got for free by faking accounts to get even more keys. That or create fake giveaways and get the winner to mark it as received. Same guy won the same game twice? Completely legit.

What's interesting is that he's still not banned, inspite of being reported.

To each their own way of doing things.

  • Some people do only group giveaways because they only want a certain group of people to participate.
  • Some will do private giveaways because they want to provide only to active members of the community who visit the forums.
  • Some will put a minimum contribution value on all their giveaways because they don't want to give to people who don't contribute to the site.
  • And some are just plain generous and give to everyone, without discriminating.

I've done a bit of each of those scenarios myself.

Up until recently you couldn't even put a minimum contribution value, so consider yourself lucky to simply have that possibility.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I try to put a contribution requirement in just about everything.

  • $0.01 - someone who's contributed anything at all
  • $0.98 - someone who's given at least 2x a forty-nine cent gift
  • $4.90 - same as above, accounts for people who give lots of small things
  • $30.01 - for people who have given at least one thing that wasn't part of a bundle

I always do a little facepalm when I see something go up for a flat dollar amount less than $30. In my opinion, posters should be using these or requirements like these more often. But I certainly don't think it needs to be every time.

It would just make steamgifts a wealth redistribution website, not a website for generous non-judgmental giving. I am extremely grateful for steamgifts. Besides groups do a lot of that regulating for us. With such low winning odds on most non group/contributor giveaways it takes quite a bit of commitment to win thus deserving and/or lucky people are the ones that win not general leachers.
