So I walked outside today and close to my house was a dead Horseshoe crab. He must have been swept far from the beach and too my house in the big tropical storm we had.

My first reaction was too run away because this looks like something that should be in the movie Alien. But my friend said I was being insensitive because she likes horrifying looking creatures like this one. So in honor of crabby here, I made this thread. Sadly, I don't know any crab games, but I did find some games that involved beaches.. which was his home.

No sadly he was dead by the time I found him. Interesting, I didn't know that about them.

I remember watching a special a few years ago about crabs. They weren't horseshoe crabs, and they were red in colour. One of the things that stuck in my memory was the image of thousands upon thousands of little tiny crabs trying to make it back to the ocean. They had so many obstacles on their journey back (birds, fish, cars, other animals). It was quite amazing to see them when they got back to the shoreline, but even then they still faced a lot of danger!

They sound like the Red Crabs of Christmas Island, they have to go down to the water to release their eggs. It is an amazing sight to see a carpet of crabs litterally everywhere.

Another piece of useless inormation the Horseshoe Crab is a living fossil and has survived mega mass extinctions through out it's 450 million history, it's one of natures great true survivors.

Yes, their blue blood is copper-based (our blood is based on iron). But essentially their blood coagulates fast if there's any pathogens, so they use it to in the manufacturing of vaccines and stuff to ensure safety. They bleed out thousands of them. They live afterwards, but it's still not that comfortable to think about :/ And apparently a lot of them die.

Risen 2 and Morrowind III have a lot of crabs. The hero slays them there.

It's sad. Even tho they look weird and are living fossils D:

Their population is slowly decreasing, and their blood is only source of really cool stuff that allows us to prepare vaccines and detect harmful bacteria.

They are literally caught by companies, ~30% of their blue blood is sucked out and they are released back to the ocean
