HAPPY National Doughnut Day! (June 3rd)

National Doughnut Day honors the Salvation Army "Lassies" of WWI. It is also used as a fund raiser for needy causes of the Salvation Army.

The original Salvation Army Doughnut was first served by Salvation Army in 1917. During WWI, Salvation Army "lassies" were sent to the front lines of Europe. These brave volunteers made home cooked foods, and provided a morale boost to the troops. Often, the doughnuts were cooked in oil inside the of the metal helmet of an American soldier. The American infantrymen were commonly called doughboys. Salvation Army lassies were the only women outside of military personnel allowed to visit the front lines. Lt. Colonel Helen Purviance is considered the Salvation Army's "first doughnut girl".

On National Doughnut Day, look to see if your local doughnut shop, or other organizations, are offering free donuts to solicit donations for the Salvation Army or for another needy cause. If you find them, please be generous.

  • Note: The word "Doughnut" is often shortened to "Donut. So, if you see the term National Donut Day, its the same day

Lately IndieGala seems to be stuffing up the Steam links in the library. They lead to the games from the previous bundle atm.

Shit, and right after I ran out of money. This makes about 8 or so bundled HOGs that I'm missing. Maybe I can win some, but after my utter failure in talgaby's recent point-draining extravaganza, I'm not betting on it.

Haha. Out of curiosity, besides the four previously-unbundled games here, which other ones are you missing?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Let me see, they were:

Vampire Legends: The True Story of Kisilova
Eventide: Slavic Fable
The Secret Order 2: Masked Intent
Fairy Tale Mysteries: The Puppet Thief

They've been bundled fewer times than most, so it's not surprising.

But paying €3.29 for 10 Artifex Mundi games, including four released in the past few months, feels like theft...

Permalink

Just imagine how it feels to pay a third. Horrible guilt.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Right. That amounts to €0.33 per game.
I was so guilty I decided to buy a (quadruple) gift copy during Happy Hour for €5.47
In the end, I paid €8.76 for 50 games, or €0.175 per game...

why is IG expensiver when you pay with euros its the only site:(

Permalink

Because of VAT ; /
But you can prevent it, if you buy through a VPN.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Thx dont want to sound stupid but what is VAT?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Value Added Tax, or Goods Tax. The general tax most European countries put on goods, be it physical or digital.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

ah thx I did guess it meant something like that but wasnt sure
(here we call it BTW)
On groupees and Humble I pay always less in euros And at bundlestars the same
But thx a lot for the explanation

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Bundlestars has it included in their € price,
Humble just doesn't collect it (us based),
Groupees deducts it from the $ price without the user noticing or paying more.
IG adds it on top on payment

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

thanks a lot for explaining this

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

And we call it ÁFA. But VAT is the generally accepted global term.
Bundle Stars and Humble integrate it in the normal price and pay the VAT themselves. IndieGala and a good number of other sites decided to add the VAT on top since they apparently have a much smaller profit margin due to the happy hour deals.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

that sounds very logical
And indeed the happy hour deals are so cheap

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

are you sure that Humble pays any VAT?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Fees typically average 5 to 6% across all transactions, but may vary depending on a number of factors, including your location, purchase price, and payment method. We deduct VAT, where applicable, in the same manner.

By analyzing these lines extracted from the bottom of the payment box, I'd guess that VAT is already calculated in the price.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I suspect that to be US-state VAT, they couldn't care less about EU VAT but not sure..

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I just checked my Paypal receipts, and there're no mentions of VAT there.
I didn't get any warning from my government (they're really wary about taxes), so probably the VAT payments are done by the payment processor (either Paypal, or a bank).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They have to if they want to sell anything in Europe.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Can/Does anybody check that for non-EU companies though?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yep. They need to register their business on the continent and do all dealings through there. this is why most American companies have an EU HQ in Luxembourg or Ireland.

I'm hijacking your comment for a (probably stupid) question: how do Indie Gala gift purchases work?
Are the keys added somewhere in the library?
I think I could take advantage of this Happy Hour and emulate you with HOG giveaways!

Comment has been collapsed.

So the happy hour is kind of confusing. If you bought the bundle (NOT as a gift) during the first week it was available, and bought the top tier (if it was available in tiers), then you will get 4 bundles for the price of 1 during happy hour. If you did NOT buy the bundle during the first week, you will get 2 bundles for the price of 1 during happy hour. You MUST check the "Yes. Buy as a gift" box when buying during happy hour or else you don't get this special deal.

So, for this bundle if you pay the $4.99 during happy hour you will get either 2 or 4 bundles depending on whether you bought it previously. The gift bundles show up in your IG account under the normal bundle. You can either give away the entire bundle or click into it and gift/reveal the individual keys.

You can also pay more, according to the chart at the "check our gift packs" section of the bundle page, you can get even more copies:

Get 2 bundle gifts paying more than: $9.78
Get 3 bundle gifts paying more than: $13.92
Get 4 bundle gifts paying more than: $17.56
Get 5 bundle gifts paying more than: $21.21

This is also a bit confusing, because in happy hour each gift is multiplied, so, assuming you bought the bundle normally in the beginning, each "bundle" in that list is actually 4 bundles. So pay $9.78 to get 8 bundles, or up to $21.21 to get 20 bundles :) And you can do that twice, bringing the total up to 40 bundles. This is the limit that IG allows.

Thank you for explaining, I've never bought a bundle during Happy Hour, so I didn't know where the keys would be located.
As for the purchase itself, I bought this bundle for myself during the first few days (when it costed $2.99), and I'll probably take advantage of Happy Hour to get gifts to farm CV.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They will be located in the same place but below the last key as "Your gifts: Here's your gift link 0, 1, 2, 3" :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Okay, I purchased it and got the 4 gift links.
Now I should put my e-mail address there, and I'll get the keys there, am I right?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You don't need to. Just click on the link for each bundle and you see every game. You can decide to get the keys, or gift links for each one. :)

I can recommend the Steam group GroupBuys.
The bundles from IndieGala just get insanely cheap, when you buy a 20 or 40 gift pack. People there are either hosting a group buy or buying from a host. But if you are buying, you are limited to one bundle if other people want to buy it, too.
We should probably make an own SteamGifts GroupBuy ;D

It's still a bit confusing for me (I'm dumb) but I guess it's all for those who want to buy many copies of the same bundle.
