Heh.The sultan's officials are saying that the coup is already "crushed",yet there is still fighting in Ankara, the borders are closing, air traffic is null and the premier is screaming bloody murder against the coup's airforces?
Yeah,I call BS.
Comment has been collapsed.
It's just that it's weird that the heavily-armed army would just surrender to unarmed citizens in order to face execution afterwards. This is either plain propaganda or the whole coup is fishy. No matter who's going to win, I doubt that this is going to end well.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, its either just official propaganda (which is extremely likely due to most of that info coming from the premier or the loyalist intelligence service) or the army went full retard and pulled the same crap as the forces loyal to the soviet State Committee on the State of Emergency (entered Moscow, then ran away without accomplishing anything).

Blew? I don't know how exactly they killed them. Except if you're talking about my previous comment, which is a different one. Military jets and tanks have been reported near Instanbul's airport, but no news about what has been done yet.

That was real bad - as bad as it gets for those poor sods. Looked like civilians from the way they were dressed and the damage was from worse than small arms fire. Hoping this is over without any more of that.

I agree that this entire scenario is horrible... but on the other hand martial law and curfews where declared 4 hours ago. I don't think this coup is good or anything, but if I see soldiers in my town and martial law and curfews are enforced, the last thing I would do is leave the building. This happens when stupidity meets violence.
Comment has been collapsed.
It's difficult when stuff is happening. I fortunately haven't been involved in anything like that but I've been out in rioting when the sensible option would have been to hide. A whole bunch of things go through your head and you just end up feeling you should be doing something, and then you end up thinking that you should have been hiding behind the sofa. And at least I got to regret my choices rather than end up spread all over the floor like that...
Comment has been collapsed.
The people were told not to leave their homes but Erdoğan urged everyone to go outside and oppose the soldiers. These people are indeed stupid but you can't expect much more from the supporters of Erdoğan. He literally sent them to their deaths. He should be put in jail for that alone but that's never going to happen.

He said that Gulen's supporters did the coup. He just wants to crush the opposition. ;P He also said that they traitors will pay a heavy price.

Looking to be that way. If this does push for any kind of a political change at all - I hope it is in the hands of the people by election.
And, that goes without saying that it should also be without bloodshed!

There are reports that Erdogan lied about the explosions in Mugla and Marmaris.

Well, nobody knows, but now people will give him the "right" to kill anyone he wants, just by accusing them being traitors.

Yeah this is the summary of yesterday's situation. If it's staged, its sad to see how many people are still blindly following him. If it's not, then it's an unsuccessful coup which means even army can't make them gone and they will not go away until death or something. Believe me, both possibilities are terrible.
Comment has been collapsed.
It wasn't coup by army itself thats why it is not succesful. They were small grop. I am not sure about staged part or not but what I wanna say that ofcourse they weren't gonna succeed, no support from Turkish Army Force, all those statements made in national channel were fake, just bunch of soldiers that invaded channel
Comment has been collapsed.
If you're doing a coup you obviously do think about what the results will be. A slaughter of civilians will not forward any goals set forth. You do have to live together afterwards, and if your regime is known to be a bloodthirsty dictatorship, good luck NOT getting repercussions from everywhere and probably an invasion of your own by another army.
Comment has been collapsed.
"But we said stay inside" is not really something holding water when being trialled for warcrimes. And no, you can't just take civilianstatus away from civilians when it's deemed convient to do so.
NATO is to protect countries. The army isn't the rulefull leader of said country so NATO has full mandate to actually move in and mop them up to protect the safety of Europe. Just saying. They are fairly unlikely to do so, but massive civilian slaughter is one sure way to make it happen.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, a lot of people think NATO actually would have preferred for the coup to succeed. An invasion in that case would be very unlikely.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ofc they can't. But instead of invading they can give long boring speeches and add useless sanctions.
Comment has been collapsed.
Except it wasn't statement from Turkish Army Force but a little group who took control of national television. So just because bunch of people take control of TV and said they took control of the Country, it doesn't mean they actually did. And generals were already saying its fake. Coup is going and all other channels giving TV series, and full internet access. Coup my ass.
Comment has been collapsed.
It's a shame, this might have been a good chance to get rid of that islamistic asswipe Erdogan. On the other hand, I have also heard that the whole coup thing migh've been staged to perform "clearings" inside army.
Don't let them turks into EU wo visas anyways!

Turkey and Erdogan will remain strong! faark the haters. ;)
people dont know shit outside Turkey. this coup is set up from a terrorist named Fetullah he is a imam who wants to be the leader. its a small group of army who he had in his power. so luckily its over!
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, this is disappointing.Guess the army really did chicken out. They could have put the ottoman resurgency and that P.O.S. Erdo down for good, yet they buckled when they should have went all-out.A damn shame.
And I highly doubt that this is an "act".An "act" doesn't result in hundreds of corpses and actual street battles in the capital.
Comment has been collapsed.
Or maybe we just have no fucking idea of the group behind the coup? Even considering Erdogan is a fucking dictator, no way to tell for a outsider whether it would have actually been an improvement.
If reports are true and it was Fetulah the one behind the thing, then good fucking riddance, the world doesn't need any more religious leaders in places of power.
Comment has been collapsed.
Its not guaranteed to be a bad thing, either.Egypt and Thailand had military coup's,and apart from an increase in terror attacks in Egypt (which is expected when you are overthrowing a bunch of islamist rats that want to send state troops to assist their brothers in Syria),the situation is overall stable.
But isn't Fetulah pretty much an irrelevant immigrant hobo at this point and is simply there to be blamed by Erdogan for his own misfortunes? The coup was apparently staged by a bunch of military and MIA officers and it looks like a mix of Stauffenberg's and the old Union's SCSE's failed coups.

But isn't Fetulah pretty much an irrelevant immigrant hobo at this point and is simply there to be blamed by Erdogan for his own misfortunes?
As far as anyone outside Turkey knows, yes. (Is the guy even alive, by the way? Because although he is supposed to be behind some massive events, I don't think I recall anyone actually seeing/talking to him for a while…))
Comment has been collapsed.
Or, well, when you see that people in other countries really wished the Turkish president (although at this rate he could be called El Presidente) removed from seat, then mayba, MAYBE it could be that the local propaganda is just a tad lying and the rest of the world want him gone with a reason.
On the plus side, Turkish people soon most likely will have a lot in common with the residents of the Russian Federation. You can exchange stories on how the big, bad evil Western world wants you benevolent lifelong presidents gone, and it must be true because said president said so.
Comment has been collapsed.
Just call him what he truly is-an ottoman sultan.
Shitty comparison with the RF/Eurasia,as the west never hid the fact that they would prefer to have Putin's head on a spike (are we seriously going to play the "denial of the undeniable" game here),while Mickey Mouse has been the USA's BFF for years and got targeted by his own janissaries.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, Erdogan is on a good path to become as much liked on the West as Putin is, at this rate. Especially if he really goes the hardcore Islamist way. Not even Hillary would be able to defend that in the Congress and Senate, even if by some miracle they finally get rid of most of the Republicans.
(Although I still would like to think the thought process: "Hey, most of the first-world countries are in a renewed state of Islamophobia, anti-Islamic parties are slowly becoming second or first largest political parties… So now it is the time to ask to be a part of the EU while adopting the banner of Islam!"
Erdogan a few years back didn't seem like some utterly incompetent, flat-out blatantly idiot mini-Führer who would do something this obviously retarded.)

just an example... You never know what's inside someone's head, that last night was too easy for a military act... It's was just a test if you ask me...
