Final Fantasy VIII and X. Metal Gear Solid series. Assassins Creed. Mass Effect....

I don't see why Assassin's Creed. Pretty much everyone in there was a murderer/thief except Ezio's mom, sister, and brother.

This thread made me realise that the games that make emotionally attached to the protagonist are almost always 3rd person games.
Regardless, for me it's Max Payne 1/2, The Suffering, Arkham Asylum/City. I didn't care much for Revan and wish Artyom was a bit more developed.

I only played LIMBO like 10 minutes and feel sorry for the poor boy getting crushed by spikes Oo

^This. I was quite sad when the tree/spider stabbed me :(

Did ya notice the bear trap in the tree just before there? Listen when the spider goes for a strike and misses you (i.e. ninja out the way). That's all you are getting from me for hints :P

Lydiaaaaaa... You ffing stupid piece of sht. - That's my reaction everytime she dies. Yay, I'm an asshole. At least I made her a Blade at the end. Simply the best companion in Skyrim.

Lydia in Skyrim. My first and favourite housecarl. I used her throughout the majority of the game.

Half the time she sounds VERY excited to serve the Dragonborn. rolls eyes

It's just sad that she serves the wrong dragonborn/me. I actually let her face the enemies alone and fled from the fight many times (I played on Master), especially when I first faced the Whipmother. Plus, I constantly insult her when she dies in the middle of a fight. And she just came back, god, I love her.
P/S: I didn't marry her because she's not pretty. Such a douche I am.

It wasn't even my character, think it may have been someone at PCGamer... He did a Skyrim level 1, live like an NPC, self-imposed permadeath game play and blogged it, I enjoyed reading the blogs so much I was sad when he got the character killed as that meant no more blogs D:

That's interesting. Could you please provide me the link? I'd love to read that story.
Btw, Bethesda game does not really have a protagonist. He/she's a nameless character that represents the player thus I never have a feeling with my character when I play Fallout & Skyrim 'cos my life is worthless, lol. Still, NPCs in those games really make me think.

Vivi from Final Fantasy. I somehow love that little black mage :o seriously who dosnt ?.

Yes, quite a lot. In most strategy games, I get attached to the units under my command and don't want to lose a single one. That attachment is lost in multiplayer though. That's why I like singleplayer campaigns.
I also get attached to my character and any allies I might have in RPGs and action games. Again though, only in singleplayer. The marines in Halo: CE are a memorable example. It was painful to count the number of marines left after a battle and realize some are gone. Sadly, it was impossible to keep them all alive.
And yes, I also get attached to my families in The Sims :)

Company of Heroes, mate. I actually feel bad everytime one of my units die in the battlefield; thus, I never sacrifice them even though the population cap's kinda annoying.
You should try some JRPG, they have good character story development. FF franchise for example.
About the Marines in Halo, I don't really like them: Every time they drive, they d*amn ruin my warthog and they tend to die very quickly. I tried to save them but failed eventually.

Bioshock 1 and 2 protagonists and Tenenbaum - just a wonderful story and hard not get into it.
Postal dude from Postal 2 - all he wants to do is live his life quietly.. but noo..
Sergeant Paul Jackson and Soap from CoD4 - actually felt bad in the end.
Max Payne.
Faith from Mirror's Edge - killed her a little too much and I need to get out more..

The Postal Dude? Yeah, it seems that everyone in Paradise just begs him to shoot into their face. He just choose a wrong wife and wrong place to live in. Lol.
I'm gonna try Bioshock, maybe this Summer Sale. I'd love to see the relationship between Big Daddy and Little Sister though.

Nope!
Just kidding, I just find those characters in TF2 hilarious. To me, I don't think I could have any emotional bond to my characters when they die and respawn on daily basic. Instead, I'm emotionally tied to my team: insulting them when they could not protect my beloved sentry for example.

So, Short answer, Yes.
Little bit longer answer, Oh god..So many times.
Longer answer, I've acctually wanted there to be a sequel just to say 'Lol, Just kidding it was all a dream' several times.
Worst one I can currently think of? Mirrors edge.
When merc dies, Why? It's fucking merc! He's awesome :(

The reason I created this topic is that I'm attached to my sims when I started to play the Sims 3 several days ago. Seeing they growing up, having a family is just fantastic. The moment when a child is born really strikes me hard: the wife of my sim had go to the hospital to give birth while my sim was at work; he quitted working and rushing to the hospital... on his bicycle. Of course, there are a ton of other memorable moments.
At first, I just get this game to play for fun as one of my friend suggested. Then I wasted hours and hours on it; well, I didn't expect that kind of emotion after years of shooting, murdering and watching all kinds of people die in gaming. Lol.
So, how's about you? It's a yes or no. It's damn fine if you answer no, of course. A game's just a game anyway. But if "yes", please tell me your experience. Is that Ghost in the so-called rail shooter (no offend) or Lydia or Squall & Rinoa? And how did you get attached to him/her/them?
Let the discussion begin.
