The reason I created this topic is that I'm attached to my sims when I started to play the Sims 3 several days ago. Seeing they growing up, having a family is just fantastic. The moment when a child is born really strikes me hard: the wife of my sim had go to the hospital to give birth while my sim was at work; he quitted working and rushing to the hospital... on his bicycle. Of course, there are a ton of other memorable moments.

At first, I just get this game to play for fun as one of my friend suggested. Then I wasted hours and hours on it; well, I didn't expect that kind of emotion after years of shooting, murdering and watching all kinds of people die in gaming. Lol.

So, how's about you? It's a yes or no. It's damn fine if you answer no, of course. A game's just a game anyway. But if "yes", please tell me your experience. Is that Ghost in the so-called rail shooter (no offend) or Lydia or Squall & Rinoa? And how did you get attached to him/her/them?

Let the discussion begin.

Zack from Crisis Core. I was so sad even if i did know what would happen to him at the end of the game. I was thinking that he should have been the true hero of FF7 after that.

I'd probably say Big Boss (MGS3) and Auron (FFX).

Their story and their character just grew on me, and was honestly worried about how the game would develop for them.
They both have quite a tragic story, in the end, so maybe that's why I'm pretty attached to them. Still, for that reason they're also my favourite game characters of all time.

Other than those two old bastards, I'm pretty sure no other game ever succeeded in doing that, for me.

And if you were talking about user-created characters, nope, never really grew attached to them. Probably because 90% of the time they don't have any personality.

I got annoyed when I watched some guy on Youtube complete Zelda Ocarina Of Time in an hour 30mins. My childhood, just down the pan there and then.

One time playing Space Station 13, a guy took me to space so i could take a gift from a magic chrismas sock, it was a sweater, i didint liked it so after saying thanks i removed my oxigen tank, my space suit and froze/choke/decompessed to death. He carried my corpse to the station and gave me proper burying, after that he just stayed on the bar, drinking and playing russian rulet until he finaly died.
A little off-topic but awsome anyways, i never found the guy again.

Sure, yeah. Big Boss from MGS3, Old Snake from MGS4, Sniper Wolf from MGS, Locke and Setzer from FFVI. Mostly because of what happened to them. That's all I can think of at the moment lol.

I haven't played Mass Effect, but I heard that the game actually created a strong bond between player and characters in the game, right? I'll try Mass Effect someday.

And I've just watched an Gamer Poop episode on Mass Effect, it's just hilarious.

I agree, I was romancing Tali and I made some bad decisions in the third game, which I regret with all of my heart v_v

Emotionally attached... hmm not really... But compared to all video games I played, I never liked any character as much, as I love(d) Jade, Pey'J and Double H from Beyond Good and Evil.

Only a few. The main character of Yakuza (can't remember his name right now), Tali from Mass Effect (seriously, after three games, how can you not care about her?), and Ezio from Assassin's Creed.

I play football manager a lot, and play very long (multi-decade) save games. So yes, I've got very attached to players who come into the team and perform for me and just keep coming back to help us out. Watching a 15 year old develop from a youth player to a squad player to a first team starter to captain and international superstar is very rewarding.
