Okay, so I am now trying to understand something and can't actually figure it out. I'm referring to two latest giveaways (Lazy Guys Bundle and Edge of Space, both 50 copies GAs), but let's talk about it on a bit easier example:

Let's say there are two games given away: game A, which is REALLY good, everyone wants it and there are always people who do not already have that game and it's being given away, but only ONE copy. Oh, and there is a little giveaway hidden for all who considered reading this post ;). There is also game B, which is an indie game, that is not really well known and it's also given away, but let's say, 50 copies. How come, that game A has about 4-5k entries and game B has 15-20k entries?

Another example: we have only game C, but two separate giveaways. One copy vs. 50 copies. I am more than certain that the first will get only 10-20% entries of the second one.

My question is: does the number of copies really that matter? Me, for example - I join a giveaway when I want a game, not when there is higher chance of winning, nor higher number of copies... It seems like people join GAs only to win, not necessarily a game they actually want... This is sad. Isn't it?

I guess that if only people were less greedy and wouldn't enter GAs just to win something, any1 would quite easily win games they want. But that's not gonna happen - people were, are and will be greedy. Sadly.

It is actually sad.
I may have almost 1k entries and no wins, but I prefer that to winning a game I don't want at 200 entries.

Also, there may be someone who actually wants the game you've won (without wanting ofc).

I don't actually feel bad.
I'd feel bad if I paid something to get here, but no, I am here to test my luck, and get a surprise some day with a new nice game that I'd want to have and can't afford at the moment.

Odds. One copy and seven thousand entries means you are almost definitely not winning that game. Fifty copies and twenty thousand entries, basically registers to one copy per four hundred entries, which is a lot better. Me, I enter games that look fun, most times though I'll reconsider spending my hard earned ( :P ) points on a low chance giveaway unless I reeeeeeaaaally want the game. If there's quite a few entries, then I might be like "ehh, let's give the game a shot, if I win".

One thing to consider is the developer bundles often get featured on the home page for multiple days, driving entries.
Also people are bad at math, thinking they have a greater percentage to win on a larger number of copies despite the number of entrants.

It is really sad.I don't enter the games that I won't play at all(mostly simulator games). Some people enter for only farm cards.

And yes number of copies and chances of winning the game, affects people. Not me though.I search the game, even watch some gameplay videos when I am not sure of entering.

Normally games with like 10+ copies are Developer giveaway and they often got feature on front page for several days so it drive a lots of entries . You also have to take in account that we get capped at 300 points so you technically lost every points after that if you don't somehow spend your points. Most people ( me included sometime ) would rather just enter a giveaway that do nothing. It also mean you will see the "feature giveaway" more often ( basically it mean I don't really care just enter to spend my points anyway ).

The developers GA stay on top of the GA list on the homepage, so I guess that makes them get more entries too.

I join for giveaways with a lots of copies, simply because entering a one copy giveaway with 2000+ entries is a total waste of time.

But, I won't enter a giveaway if I have lots of chance to win it if I know that I won't play it.
More than once, I skipped entering hidden giveaways with ~10 entries. Just because I wasn't interested.

My point of view on the subject is, I enter giveaways if I have a better chance of winning. But I won't enter a giveaway for a game that I won't enjoy.

I can understand that, but 50 copies GAs are not always having a bigger chance to win...

If you would make one copy giveaway 50 times, in my opinion not a single one would get more than 4-5k entries. For a game anyone wants.

The ones with 50 copies are usually dev giveaways and stick at the top of the list so pretty much everyone is guaranteed to see them. Kinda like a big reminder to save up your points for it.
That and people don't understand probability. 50 copies with 1000 entries isn't 1 in 20 chance of winning, it's 1 in 1000, then 1 in 999, and so on.

Some, if not most, people would prefer to win something than nothing at all.

Something that they won't play at all? I can understand that someone saw one game's gameplay, thought it was fun and joined a GA, won a game, played it and it wasn't so fun at all, so they abandon playing it. But to win a game just to have it in library or even worse, regift?
