I gave it a try, but yeah, sandboxies are pretty boring to me

Playing it solo is boring and the game seems dull and pointless but the game has coop/multiplayer then the game becomes great. It's flushed out with almost no bugs not like thousands of other games.

I think it was Dylan Moran who considered adults arguing over what were the "best" examples among any form of art or media the equivalent of 5-year-olds arguing over what was the "best" dinosaur.

I have to admit, I find it beyond baffling that anyone over the age of 16 can really believe that their tastes and preferences are better or more correct than anyone else's. Certainly, it's damned hard not to rule anyone out as a monumental asshat if they angrily insist that the things they like are objectively better than the things other people like.

Incidentally, Devil Daggers is - objectively - an incredibly limited and monotonous game; if you like it, you are demonstrably wrong.

And if you don't think the stegosaurus is the best dinosaur, you're clearly a moron.

As a Castlevania/Metroid fan (the 2d ones) I can say Terraria exceeded my expectations and have everything you could ever ask from a game in that genre, I remember playing the first version and I though it could not get better, some years latter I came back to find it still being updated.
People that don't like terraria probably dislike any platformer game with progression, you must understand that you can't compare minecraft with terraria, terraria is not a creative game about building fancy houses and going to sleep before monster gets you, terraria is an adventure/exploration/action/platformer with a progression in which you must find or grind your way toward better gear and habilities to defeat X boss to keep progressing and eventually get to the end (in this case we assume the end when killing the last boss). Terraria has an implicit goal, minecraft doesn't.

I'm not saying minecraft is bad, I used to play it a lot, my point is that these are not comparable games, don't try to make terraria look like a minecraft wannabe, it never tried to sell itself as minecraft 2D so stop complaining about that shit, and people complaining about unintutive gameplay, that is relative, because when I played the minecraft alpha version I didn't even know I could do a torch till I read the wiki, and I was amazed at how much I didn't knew about the game, for me that is a plus, let the player discover how to do the stuff, as long as the game doesn't force you to use something to progress it can be discovered by you anytime.

So if you are looking a relaxing game where you just want to waste time on building pointless structures in the safety of creative mode don't play terraria, and stop trying to convince people the game is crap, something is not shit because you didn't like it.

I enjoyed the game, but to each their own I guess :)
