Hi.
I've got three reasons why the train was created.
Firstly, it is my second coming after I was suspended as my account didn't meet $100 value, but actually I've joined SG over a year ago.
It happened because I passed the Steam verification check due to the Free Weekend - Football Manager 2015. I didn't know about that all this time. Finally, I'm back.
Secondly, Happy Halloween!
Thirdly, 28.

P.S. Could you advise me any non-multiplayer survival game, starting like a vagabond but it's really hard to get on one's feet.

Thanks.
Good luck.

Hey, welcome back, happy Halloween, and happy birthday! Thanks for the great train! The only survival game I've played that I can think of is Don't Starve, but you're probably already aware of that one. Sorry I can't help more.

happy scary birthday~

was kinda lazy to look through my library and known games list but i guess it was worth it for a birthday gift :P here are some survival games that i can give you. here is just a list if you just want the names and i will write down a litte description of them if you want to read it : kenshi, Rogue, Unreal world, Rogue survivor, Stranded (just stranded not the stranded deep junk), project zomboid, state of decay, die2night (zombvival), dont starve, one way heroic, zafehouse diaries

firstly kenshi. its not exactly a survival game and more of a reallife fighting/trading/building/etc. simulator (XD the hell am i writing here?) but there is food need and its a harsh world so even just living in it is kind of like a survival game so you might like it.

Second is Rogue (and every roguelike game). The first roguelike game was called rogue (therefore they were named after it) and it was focused on just surviving without any real goals. just a randomly generated world, dangers, you with your needs (like hunger and sleep) and so on. its pretty old and kinda hard to get into because there are no graphics (it uses ASCII as graphics) but really fun to play those games. here is a link that will help you out a lot if you are interested in therse kind of games :P http://www.roguebasin.com/index.php?title=Main_Page

Another roguelike that is easier to get into and actually has graphics is Unreal world. You are some indian guy (like you know from a tribe with not much of technology or anything more than tools to use) living in a world with wild animals and everything. There are other people and villages and so on that you can talk to and trade and if i remember right make them follow you too and there are a lot of skills in it to explore the world however you want to (like fishing, tracking, hunting, climbing, swimming, trapping, star reading or something like that, rituals to please the gods and so on)

Also one of my all time favorite roguelike games is Rogue survivor. Its just a typical zombie survival game where you have to eat and sleep and keep your sanity down by having followers or just butchering down all those zombies but it is a lot of fun. I have played this game more hours than I want to admit lol

Next one is Stranded. Like mentioned before i dont mean the stranded deep game. I mean the "Stranded" game. There are 2 games of it out and a 3rd to come sometime (hopefully soon). its about you being stranded on an island and just trying to survive. You can plant crops and live from your farm or go out and hunt animals. You can build a house and build traps and so on. Its a really good survival game but also pretty old (the second part came out in 2006 or 2007 if im not wrong) It isnt too much of a problem that its old though since the community is really dedicated even until today and constantly releases new mods. There even was a multiplayer mod for it (even though it still is really buggy but it works)

Then there is Project zomboid. It is actually a multiplayer game too, but you can play a campaign in it and play alone in sandbox mode too. It was even kind of built to play alone. You can see it since there are some time consuming things (like sleeping or reading a book) that are just a chore to do in multiplayer since you cant fast forward the time or simply taken out. Its yet another zombie survival game where that is really detailled though. You can catch a cold in it, you have to bandage your wounds and every now and then get a clean bandage around it again to keep yourself from getting an infection, you have to sleep, eat and drink, your character actually can hear and see (if your character cant see or hear well you wont be able to see as far and you wont hear everything from your speaker for example) and its really focused on how a real zombie apocalypse would feel. Its still in developement though and i think the campaign isnt in it yet and the NPC were taken out for some bugs they had but its still a good game and you should keep an eye out for it if you are interested.

State of decay is another zombie survival game. Its more of a zombie smashing game than survival but nonetheless a lot of fun. You start with your friend somewhere in a wood (you were camping if im not wrong?) when suddenly dead people started walking and biting around. You find some more survivors that llead you to more people that live in a base and thats where the "real" game starts. You have your base with people in it and just try to survive. You can go out and find supplies (like food, medicine, building material, weapons etc.) and then use those to build and upgrade your base. Every survivor is actually a character and not just another background graphic. They go out on supply runs too and you can even take control of them. If you use too long the same character they will get tired (their max stamina drops) and they wont regenerate any health. You find new people to take into your base and you can relocate your base into another building and there is even some kind of story in it (in form of missions). Its a fun game but its less a survival game and more a zombie slaughtering/supply gathering game. Also the upgrades are realltime based (when it says 2 hours it means 2 hours in reallife even if you close the game) and the supplies they use are also realtime but as far as i know it wont get you anything negative like people starving to death. its just to make it more fun and not your job to play it.

You probably heard of dont starve already so i will keep it short. You are just in a random world with monster coming at night and your goal is to not starve (as you know from the title already). You just have to find food, gather things to build stuff that you will need for your survival. Kind of like mincraft minus the creative side and more focus on survival and fighting.

Zafehouse diaries is pretty interesting if you like reading a bit (well if you are still reading my comment you surely do XD). Its about a group of (usually) 5 survivor in a zombie apocalypse. the whole game consists of a map, 5 token (like a button that you have on clothes or a little rock) symbolising your character and your diary. you send them out to other buildings to search for resources that you will need (like food and weapons) and can build and fortiffy your base into every house in the map. You can chose an action for every survivor when they are in a house like searching around, baricading it, sniping the zombies, patroling around and so on. The "gameplay" consists of you just chosing what they do and forwarding the time. After you go forward in time it will write into your diary. It will say things like "character 1 went into the house but there were 2 zombies. character 1 used his pistol to shoot down the one zombie in the living room and then took his axe to chop down the second zombie in the kitchen" and thats it.

Die2Night is actually a multiplayer browser game where 40 people get into a town surounded by zombies and have to work together to build and upgrade the town to suvive as long as possible in realtime. Its pretty fun and actually complicated even though it seems to be really easy and you should deffinitely check it out sometime if it sounds interesting to you but thats not exactly what i want to tell you. There is a spinoff game from this which you can play alone or in little parties with friends/random people. You have a base there and can move out into the world to gather food, weapons, building resources, medicine and other stuff for you to use. You also have to sleep in it since you get tired. Its realtime-ish though unlike Die2Night. Normaly every 5 minutes a "turn" passes which are 5 game minutes BUT you can change that so that it goes faster or slower. you can set it from 5 seconds per turn up to 15 minutes per turn so you can actually play it as an active game and not just a "throughout all the day" kind of game. It is pretty siimilair to Die2Night and i think you even need a Die2Night account to be able to play there so if you like one of them check out the other one as well :P

Last but not least isnt even really a survival game. One way heroics is another more modern and easy to get into roguelike that is still a lot of fun. In it the evil overlord tries to destroy the world and casts a spell on it. There is a black "wall" coming from the left of the screen and you just have to keep running to the right. You gather equipment and gain experience and so on and so forth and at some poing the overlord appears and you have to beat him. Thats pretty much the whole game but i got reminded of it because its another roguelike and you have to eat food in it so its still kind of almost agreeably a survival game XD Its pretty fun though since you can unlock new character by dying or playing through the game which leads to different play styles and you can unlock new perks for them to use and so on. Its pretty fun and has a really high replayability.

Ok that wraps up my "tiny little" list of singleplayer survival games up. I hope you enjoyed reading through it (or rather even endured it XD) and hope you will find a game or two with my help :3 keep me informed on if you like and think of getting one of the games and again happy birthday and a nice halloween :D

Little edit : It took me about an hour to write all this... damn I wish I was this dedicated in school. I would ace everything XD

I know... you typed all of that and was still quicker than me T_T I was just surprised someone else even thought of it. Seems like hardly anyone notices/likes the game.

yeah most people dislike it because its too "real" and too hard for them. like i have seen so many people complain about how they have to wait for their character to wake up after getting beaten by bandits for example. I kinda want to give them a slap into their face XD i mean i understand you dont like it but come on... if there are 10 people slashing at you with their sword i think you would be even glad to survive that and wouldnt complain about how it took you 3-5 minutes to stand up again. Also the fact that you are really really weak at first seems to get many people away from it but again... If you are a guy who never trained, fought or even held a sword in your hand are you sure you would be able to fight against bandits that fight for their living? like just be real and start thinking logical about the game. Disable that "game logic" that you have and see it as something more real and it will all suddenly make sense. I also really like to roleplay in it (like imagine how my character would actually react and imagine how he interacts with all character and think of a little story in my head and everything). Anyway dont want to keep ranting in a birthday train thread XD is nice to see a fellow kenshi guy here :3

Yea, I love how hard it is myself. I just wish I had more time to put into it because I always feel like any time I play it I don't have the opportunity to put a real session into it. I wish I had the imagination to do that lol. Agreed!

Wow, what a huge text, I really appreciate it! And of course I read it all :)
I have already played some of them (Project Zomboid, Zafehouse Diaries, State Of Decay) and they are good enough.
Kenshi is exactly what I am looking for!!! I think it's perfectly difficult for me, thank you so much! ;)

sure no problem. and just a little warning with kenshi. the updates are reaaaaaally slow XD they are steady but slow. Also a lot of the planned stuff still isnt in it (mind there is only like 1/10 of the actual map in game). its a bit hard to get into since its so hard but there are quite some guides if you dont want to take the hard way and learn from your own mistakes. besides that you can sadly kind of "play through" the game in a week maybe since after you built a base and got like 20 people in it there isnt really anything you can do except exploring (which still has a lot of interesting places but isnt exactly fun to just walk around). anyway enjoy the game :3

Oh i remembered another old game. Its called clonk and is a 2D sandbox game. There are clonks (little humans) that you can control and dig around and the game itself has no goal. there are just a lot of different maps with different goals (or just free play if you want to of course). It is rather a building sandbox game but there are tons of mods and custom maps and i know there is one at least for human needs. that combined with a free play map would be a survival game i guess. There are a ton of buildings in the game focused on crafting (like a sawmill, a windmill for electricity, oven and so on) and you can do a lot. the standard maps are things like build xxx buildings, hunt down all monster/animal, gather xxx gold, defeat all enemies (PvP), rescue the princess (PvE) and simple stuff like that but again there are a tons of mods and maps and you can easily add your own content too. i did it myself so i know :P I guess you could compare it with a more open-minded minecraft that doesnt focus just on mining and building random selfmade things but instead is open to the users fantasy. Its deffinitely worth a look if you can oversee the old graphics (that you can easily change with mods again) and the kind of weird controls (you can control multiple clonks at the same time so it can get really weird when you play as 5 at the same time XD)

P.S. sorry for spamming your thread with wall of texts constantly XD
