Skyrim was basically a gallery archery game. You had to shoot people in the knees.
I think Minecraft was a RTS made by Blizzard.
Call of Duty was weird. It was a mini game in Space Quest IV where you had to answer your communicator while cleaning StarCon Federation latrines. I preferred Astro Chicken, myself.

WildTangent's "FATE" series of games. They're basically dolled-up family-friendly knockoffs of Diablo, and even introduced the fishing aspect to the genre long before Runic implemented it into their Torchlight games...
Others that come to mind:
The Etrian Odyssey series for Nintendo DS;
The Tactics Ogre games;
Scorched Earth 3D (a recent freeware 3D reboot of the classic DOS game Scorched Earth).

The reason there are so many similar mechanics to Fate in Torchlight is that Fate's dev team was led by Travis Baldree. Travis then moved on to found Runic (with some other Blizz North guys). It isn't like they were ripping off the idea, the guy who designed it just used it in the next game he made, which happened to be for a different company.
I played a bunch of Fate and the first expansion to it even though, like you said, they were "family friendly Diablo". Torchlight and now T2 are improving on the basic layout that game put forward very well, I think. I just finished with the Torchlight 2 beta and that is the game I just can't wait for this summer.

The entirety of FunOrb(casual gaming site with a lot of small browser-based Java games- Google it or something). Chances are if you haven't played one of the games there, you've never heard of it... in fact there's a really small chance that you HAVE played one of the games there(Arcanists) but still haven't heard of it. :D
Probably because it's developers decided it wasn't making enough money 2-3 years ago and just abandoned it. -.-

I'll add in Lego Racer. Wish I still had that, that was stupidly childlike fun. <3

Lego Racer was really fun! I loved that you could build your own cars and racers. :3

[1] Toonstruck--a point-and-click adventure about a cartoonist(Christopher Lloyd) sucked into a cartoon world. And his boss is Ben Stein. And the major villain is voiced by Tim Curry. [2] Operation Cleaner 2--a free download about managing your own demolition company. "And now I'll place a shaped charge in this convenient nearby tree, just to see what happens". [3] Iji. That's i-j-i. Platform shooter with RPG elements about an alien invasion, and what you intend to do about it. [4] Overlord. Your minions are ready. [5] Tyrian, a vertical scrolling shooter. Though it's most accurately "OpenTyrian" now. [6] Legend of Legaia. Possibly an allegory about reliance on technology... except with organic monster parasites. Whatever. It was fun except for that prick Songi. And finally, [7] Xenogears. Best battle system ever. A story more convoluted than your first play through FF7. And full of concentrated badassery.

Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean
Okay, "never" is quite a big word, but at least only very very rarely.

Finished the 7 many many times and a single time the 8th. Played the 6th but I loved too much the 7th to have an affair with it. Played most of the 9th and stoppd for a reason I can't remember, the game has some good stuff but overall its bad and filled with game breaking bugs, like the non spawning boss in the castle a bit after the bginning.

Wizardry 7 and Wizardry 8 from the guys that made Jagged Alliance 2
...also the Realms of Arkania series - especially part 3 Shadows over Riva. These last ones are quite famous in Germany (since the belong to the Dark Eye), but not so much in the rest of the world.
Master of Magic - the fantasy version of Master of Orion

For me this would have to be Darkest of Days, had it on Xbox awhile back. Have never heard it mentioned by ANYONE, so weird. A good game, altho I let someone borrow it then moved away right after I got it :P. Working on trying to get it on PC now, would really enjoy finishing the campaign. What about you guys? Are there any games you think are amazing, but have somehow noticed seem to not exist?
