Hello no in fact i don't have a lot of things to say, but maybe you ❔

Sometimes i like to play chinese games, because when i was a teenager, i studied chinese for some years without in the end being able to understand or read it (lol i know i suck) but i kept some love and curiosity for the chinese culture.

And here a chinese studio released a game about the history of the country where i live (not the only studio, a polish studio released we. the revolution about french history too ). Well how not to be curious ? 😋
Of course it's really a special tone, like some japanese games, that's why it's even better.

I've the eyes actually on some manga too, on the same era. It looks amazing honestly. Someone read it ?

Here is the chinese game, please tell me if you love some specific country games. Not yours, a foreign country, it's harder eheh.
If you love a specific culture, and there is something special about that in the games, don't hesitate to explain why ! 💬

I don't think i could name just one to be honest, since there's so many great foreign-made games out there :D We're at a point where pretty much every country has released some kind of banger game, you might even be playing one and not know where it was made ;P

Thinking of something well less known... here's one! Road to Ballhalla, made by a single German fella, and severly underrated/played on Steam. Really worth giving it a shot!

Aaah it looks quite hard. Is it like Super hexagon / Dub dash ?

Can't comment on Dub Dash, but compared to Super Hexagon... i'd say much easier, and not very similar in gameplay ;P The main story is enjoyably challenging, and anything tougher than that is in optional challenges. I'd say you can comfortably beat the main story even if you're not that great (like me :D ).

I don't really make a selection based on the country or nationality of developers. Residue: Final Cut is one of the unique, very personal, and very wonky indie game about the state of the Aral Sea and some insight about the change of life of the Uzbek people. I don't think it's inherently a good game, but it's a very special one that uses gameplay pretty well as a carrier for the story and message it wants to convey.

(I'm pretty sure I played a Chinese game that was translated by some point, but as I can't read or speak Chinese, if it was translated I didn't notice it. Definitely there are some I want to try out in the future)

Shamefully i had to google Aral Sea. It's a rare game you advice, i'll keep it in mind thanks.

It reminds me another rare game but about India, not specifically a good game either, weird but really interesting just because it exists.

This War of Mine is a game made in my country Poland and while it is set in a fake country - it really hits you right in the feelings.

Yes i loved it so much like many other players, it's an incredible gem, including the dlc.
Poland has really a strong videogames industry now !
911 / 112 operator were top notch ! Book of demons was an interesting twist to diablo-likes.
And we. the revolution mentioned before... Thanks for this game !

As I live in a country with very underdeveloped game industry most games are "foreign". On the other hand as nationalities aren't a criterium for my choices and I don't suffer from xenophobia I don't care where the games I play come from.

I'd love to play a game of "alien" origin provided I've fun with it.

I see Germany on your steam profile, is it your country ? I liked a lot Transocean, from german studio Deck 13 !

You've the good spirit !

It's just that some countries you see cultural / political specificities in the games they develop, so you first are curious of a game, and then you notice "oh but it's a game from ..." And sometimes it shows these cultural points and can growth even more the curiosity !

-thank you :)

-I agree, I'm happy that in spite of globalization still remain traces of different cultures and idiosyncrasies in games (and elsewhere) peeking my interest.

I don't normally put much thought into the nationality or origin of games or developers, but I believe My Time at Portia is developed by a Chinese team and it is a ton of fun. Their new title, My Time at Sandrock is looking to be quite a lot of fun too. It's been early access for a while but should be full release soon™ last I checked.

I read translated Wuxia and Xianxia webnovels on occasion too. It's actually quite interesting to compare the differences in culture when it comes to writing. Especially in regards to the mythological aspects of Xianxia for example and the sheer scale of their fantasy worlds and systems.

Would you advice a wuxia webnovel maybe please ? :D

As you mention it I played Planet Explorers from this team extensively. It's free to play and available on Steam.

Oh boy I found a lot...

I love visiting other countries through games and seeing a different perspective :) These are ones I love which I think showcase a country's culture/scenery very well!

Dinkum is basically an Australian Animal Crossing, made by just one Australian developer!
Paperbark is also set in the Australian wilderness, following a Wombat finding safety through the forest fires!
Alba: A Wildlife Adventure while set in a fictional island town in Spain, I believe the animals in the game would still be those you could find there as well as the type of landscapes :)
Röki is centered on Scandinavian folklore and wilderness Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons is very similar, made by Swedish game developers!
Carto "Was developed by Taiwanese independent studio Sunhead Games. The game's setting is inspired by several tribal cultures"
Wingspan is based on some of the birds/sceneries in North America, with a European expansion!
The Guacamelee games "Take place in Mexico with Day of the Dead as the recurring motif and theme of the game."

I think these ones really show the humour/quirks of certain countries!

TOEM From Sweden (2 university students)
The Inner World Independent game studio from Germany
TOHU Independent game studio from Poland
A Short Hike A Canadian indie game designer where I'm from :D

These ones are from my wishlist:

Kena: Bridge of Spirits "The fictional world of Kena: Bridge of Spirits was inspired by Eastern locations such as Japan and Bali"
Coral Island takes place on a colourful Southeast Asian island!
Mineko's Night Market "Celebrates Japanese culture and invites players to craft whimsical items, eat delicious snacks, and ultimately enjoy all the cats."
Sugar Shack "Fulfill orders of hungry villagers in this cozy forest inspired by Quebec lore and art!" Unfortunately the game has mixed reviews at the moment but it looks really cool!
Dungeons of Hinterberg "An action-adventure RPG set around a new tourist hotspot in the idyllic Austrian Alps"
The Spirit and the Mouse "Explore the charming French village of Sainte-et-Claire from the perspective of a tiny mouse!"
Flutter Away "Enjoy the serenity of the Amazon rainforest in this cozy short nature exploration game."
Here's one that's foreign to everyone: Europa "On the moon Europa, a lush terraformed paradise in Jupiter’s shadow"
Spirittea A life sim set in an East Asian rural town!
Gibbon: Beyond the Trees "Explore the wild jungles of Southeast Asia, dealing with environmental topics including deforestation, poaching and climate change."
Imp of the Sun Inspired by Peruvian cultures! "It's style is a reference and mix of the different civilizations that once roamed and ruled Peru"
A Space for the Unbound Set in the late 90s rural Indonesia!

Hello dear friendly user, there is so much gold here ! 💛
Thanks a lot for taking so much time, 'cause i traveled a lot through your list !
You make me want to play a short hike asap.

Oh i've just seen your precisions, please what did you think about Mineko and Gibbon specifically, they caught my eyes ?
Did you love specifically one of these games ? Dinkum caught my eyes too in your list, looks so relaxing.

About Canada the country where you live, it just evocates these ones in my mind :

https://store.steampowered.com/app/227220/SangFroid__Tales_of_Werewolves/

Thanks to have shown another photography game (Flutter away), they are so rare relatively !

Also i would just add to your list :

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1207650/Suzerain/ (i heard this one resonates a lot with Turkey)

I'm playing Dinkum right now, I love it so much! Very relaxing and fun to explore/craft things! I just won The Long Dark on here a little while ago and will be playing it soon, the scenery is beautiful! Mulaka looks amazing, I'll be adding that to my wishlist! I think I got Suzerain on Amazon Games, it looks interesting! Thank you :)

I can't be bothered to list all of them... because the list from Japan alone is a mile long.
but for games made in China I do and did play a few.

today I still play Genshin Impact, I tried Honkai impact... its fun but I am playing it safe and not letting myself get hooked by playing more.

when I was much younger, I played Conquer/Eudemons/Zero online(pretty sure these are all TQdigital entertainment games to(and very much P2W at least for PVP)), I was even a moderator for Eudemons forums for quite a bit of time.

I would need to do far to much digging for other countries games.

for games made in New Zealand... there is Path of Exile, very much F2P and if you play a ton you will ultimately want to put 30-60 in for stash tabs and maybe an armor set MTX(mostly a massive QOL boost... and letting you be a pack rat).... its almost time for the next uttering of "Hi, I am Chris Wilson from grinding gear games" to spark some hype for the next league(aka season)

I went standalone client(closed beta), steam for a bit... then back to standalone because ~2 min patch time > 30 minute+ because how the file was structured in the past(since changed so this is now a non-issue)...

just look at my hours on steam... realize the majority of the time I played the game it was not on steam.
I am more ashamed of how much money I have spent in the game to look awesome... lets just say I am not a little fish on that front.
