Yeah I just investigated and found that too. When I use the gift these are the games that will be sent to Steam Purgatory.
Portal (not worth anything anyway), Team fortress 2 (if it gave you premium), i think L4D2, CSS and Half Life: Episode 2. Then EVERY VALVE GAME WILL BE MINE! Until DotA 2 and CS:GO.

You need 7 pieces then go into your inventory and click on the coal and you will see a craft into gift button. Tell me what you get :)

You need 7 coals to do it.

I would guess you can do it from your inventory screen once you have 7, but I am only guessing.
