I'm can't decide what game I want to play next so I've setup a poll with the 4 games I'm considering playing. The choices in the poll are in no particular order. Feel free to comment and share your thoughts on the games and also let me know which you voted for.

Which One Of These Games Should I Play Next?

View Results
Final Fantasy IV (3D Remake)
Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom
Persona 4 Golden
Pillars of Eternity

From those I have only played Pillars of Eternity, which I can recommend. I enjoyed my time with it.

Another vote for Pillars, but it is worth noting that it stands out as very different from the other games on your list. The other three are all JRPGs, which, aside from their usually-anime-like visual style, generally have simplified controls and much more limited character development options, targeting console controllers with only a few buttons, whereas a CRPG like Pillars tends to be much more complex, at least in terms of character development and management, making more use of the many keys on a keyboard and the precision control of a mouse. And in terms of CRPGs, Pillars is fairly "hard core," using strict D&D-like rules, with with semi-turn-based combat ("real-time" combat, but pausable, and with ability time delays built in that combine to make it more like turn-based combat), and simulated dice rolls controlling everything, etc.

Which type of game you're in the mood for should at least help you narrow down your choices between Pillars and the other three.

All 4 games are ones I really want to play, so I'm really open to playing any of them. I recently completed a few single player games, Final Fantasy III being one of them. One thing I messed up on was I also wanted to add Tales of Symphonia to the poll. I ended up going AFK for a few minutes when creating the thread and didn't realize I forgot to add it till after I created the thread.

I've had Pillars of Eternity in my library for a long time, but I was advised by several people to wait to get the DLC before doing it. I recently got the Definitive Edition for the DLC :)

Good advice. I played it when it first came out, then when White March I came out... and I only recently went back and completed White March II. It was hard to get back into the game after being gone from it for so long, but once I did, it was still very rewarding. All said and done, I put almost 170 hours into the game and its expansions!

I haven't gotten into all that many JRPGs on the PC, but I have really enjoyed the ones I've played, all the way back to the original NES Final Fantasy in the 80s. I'm psyched for the Final Fantasy VII remake to eventually come out on PC, too, as that's another one that really left a mark on me when it was new.

I was a console gamer for the longest time and most of my time with JRPGs was on them. Most of time time with RPGs in general on PC have been MMORPGs. The Final Fantasy series I'm a huge fan and I'm definitely interested in playing the FFVII remake when it comes to PC.

Voted for Ni no Kuni because it's in my backlog as well and I'm hyped to get to it!

I've wanted to play the Ni No Kuni games for a long time and I recently got part II will all the DLC. I wasn't sure if I should play it without playing part 1 first, but from my understanding it doesn't matter what order you play them in.

Thank you for your vote.

Yeah, some quick google searching says it doesn't matter which order they are played in since they are separate stories. Either way though I'm gonna start it this year, ideally next month since I did Summer in Mara and I'm starting Code Vein soon since I finished my SG monthly obligation.
I haven't tried any of the Persona games, are you going to make another thread after you play it?

I might make another thread when I beat whatever I play next, but it more than likely will be awhile before that happens. Besides which ever game I'll be playing next I also am playing Lego Marvel Superheroes 2 and trying to get 100% on it. I also play several online games which can take up some time, MTG Arena being the one I play daily and the most out of them all. A big factor will also be if I take the plunge back into MMORPGs. I've been watching a lot of streams on Twitch for New World and Final Fantasy XIV and I'm considering getting one of those. The monthly sub for FFXIV has been the only reason I didn't do it as I really didn't feel I would play enough to justify the subscription. New World looks awesome from what I've seen so far in the closed beta.. I really wish I was able to get one of the beta keys when Alienware Arena had the giveaway as I would have liked to try it out myself. Basically if I do dive back into an MMORPG the majority of game time will most likely be dedicated to that.. MTG Arena will still get time daily as for an online card game you really want to play daily or you sort of fall behind.

That's the same reason I won't play Final Fantasy, the subscription. I learned my lesson from ESO that it's probably not worth it. New world looks really cool and I'm considering getting back into MMORPG's as well, I really liked TERA online.
Alternatively, there is Sword of Legends Online as well.

I ended up playing ESO without a sub for about 90 hours and I did enjoy my time with it for the most part. The thing that made me consider getting ESO Plus at one point was it gives you unlimited crafting space and double bank space, I didn't end up getting it though. I feel when it comes to a buy to play model those things should be part of it. That game pumps out a lot of good dlc which is included with plus among lots of other stuff. Final Fantasy is a totally different beast than ESO and it has a cheaper sub.. I think it's only $11 compared to $15. I did the demo for FF XIV and it seems a lot better than ESO. I definitely felt like it would be worth a sub compared to ESO, as long as you had time to play it of course. Have you tried the demo?

My most recent MMORPG was Archeage Unchained which I put over 1k hours into.. that didn't go so well due to the broken promises by Gamigo aka Trion 2.0, I won't post it here though, but if you want to check out my experience I posted a review for it here.

I gave Tera a try a long time ago. I did play it for a very short time before I joined Steam I believe. I believe I did like it(I played a fat hamster lol), but there was something that prevented me from enjoying it. I'm thinking there were some keys that I needed to rebind and I couldn't. I'm left handed so I use the mouse with that hand and keyboard with my right. I don't believe I could rebind the movement back then from WASD, this was a problem for some MMORPGs back then.

I haven't really looked into Sword of Legends Online much, but I may watch a few gameplay videos and do some other research to find out more about it.

Ashes of Creation is one that looks really promising. Not sure if you've seen anything about it or not, but it might be worth looking into.

Crowfall was a game I've followed for the longest time, but the changes they've made and playing one of the beta tests I just sort of lost interest in it. One of the biggest things that got me interested was that you could destroy everything, but somewhere down the line it changed and now I think only castles can be destroyed. I've watched a few streams and it just doesn't seem like it's going to do very well. Viewership is extremely low and from my understanding so is the gaming population which is really unfortunate. I have a feeling it's not going to end well tbh.

I loved ESO but I got burned out on it, played it too much and with all the DLC constantly coming out I figure I would wait to play for three or two years, then play catch up and get all the DLC in a bundle.
I didn't demo FF XIV but I played for a couple hours because it was f2p to level 60, and I did like it except 1.) It was still subscription based later on and 2.) I have a bunch of backlog I'm still trying to work through. Maybe in the future though I might be tempted to get back into it but that would definitely be a "next year" thing.

TERA was super fun but I stopped after an update which changed the storyline + if you didn't play for a year-ish your characters were deleted so names would get reused. After losing my main it just felt pointless to get back into.
Ashes of Creation reminds me of Gw2, especially the siege gameplay I watched. Would be more interested if it came to Steam though. The last thing I need is more launchers/Icons on my desktop.

Pillars looks really good. I've also had part 2 in my library for awhile. Walmart had a really cheap sale for it awhile ago and I got from a family member... I think it was like $9. The plan was to play part 1 already and start on part 2, but then I was advised not to start it till I got the DLC for part one and that took awhile as I just got the DLC recently.

I voted for Persona 4 Golden, I'm still playing through it and I'm really enjoying it.
FF IV was my first FF game and I love it but I haven't played the 3D remake so I don't know if I would recommend it.

156 hours and you're still playing through it? Woah lol That's a lot of hours right there, glad you are enjoying.

I played Final Fantasy IV when it was first released back on the SNES as Final Fantasy II, I really enjoyed it. At the time I didn't know that this was actually part IV. So I've never actually played Final Fantasy II before, I really want to pick up Final Fantasy 1 & 2 when they come out on Steam soon.

Thanks for voting.

Put my vote on Pillars ; ) because I don´t dig JRPGs that much. They make me calculate too much, which exhausts me :(
Also I have Tyranny in my Backlog like forever. Once started a game but unfortunately didn´t stick to it after character creation, which was quite extensive. So should you decide for Pillars despite the votes, maybe be prepared for an eternal long haul ..; -
