You're reading Eats, Shoots & Leaves? I thought I was the only one who'd ever heard of it, let alone read it.

I had to read Paulo Coelho for school. Moreover, I read it in its original language (Portuguese), which means that any translation could corrupt the original copy (and don't forget that corrupting a Coelho book actually means you're making it better, two minus makes a plus).

Which one of him did you read? Personally I didn't really like "The Alchemist", but the other one mentioned above "Veronika Decides to Die" is a completely different type of book which I found to be quite enjoyable to read. Furthermore I would never assume people to like a book after they HAD to read it for whatever reason!

Exactly. A million times this.
It's like he hit the jackpot with the first book and ever since his writing deteriorates, partially because he's too busy going to events and milking his best-sellers to actually put anything constructive in his new books he's contractually obligated to write. Also, he writes weekly columns for newspapers.
Seriously, Paulo Coelho is the Call of Duty of book-writing. He's a cancer to literature.

Are you watching the HBO series of Game of Thrones? :D Tis amazingggg, specially for people like me that don't care for reading, lol

I've got to read that again... been too long. I've got the 5-books trilogy lying around.

Eoin Colfer also wrote a 6th book, not as good as Adams but still a good book

Fan-bloody-tastic series! Some of the best books ever written.

I have no idea what to recommend, but I've been reading a bunch of Louis L'Amour books recently. Found one at a thrift store, bought it on a whim, and loved it. Went back for more, and eventually ended up getting about 20+ of them for $1 together. I particularly loved how some of those books I picked up were first printings from the 60's and 70's. There's something I just love about older books.
Speaking of old, I'm also reading a collection of Russian short stories by various authors from the 1800's/early 1900's. Really great writing style.

What I am reading????????!?
Stuff about cognitive pragmatics, Relevance Theory to be precise.
Yeah, I know, noone cares. I don't either, but that's the catch: I HAVE to read this crap. Wheeeee.
Apart from that, I used to storm through Stephen King and Henning Mankell books, but nowadays I forgot how to read proper books/novels, my attention span reading long texts has always been quite short, these days pretty nonexistent. I do buy the odd book but they're just catching dust on my shelf, and then I wonder why I bought those books in the first place... ugh. I much prefer comics.

Catching Fire from the Hunger Games series. I recommend the Hunger Games and the Xanth series.

Reading the Farseer Saga again right now (Assassin's Apprentice, Royal Assassin, Assassin's Quest by Robin Hobb)
But I really suggest you read the Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelanzy. Great series of books and I'm gonna be re-reading them again after I finish said Farseer saga.

On a bit of a retro sci-fi thing at the moment, stuff like Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (Philip K. Dick), 2001: A Space Odyssey (Arthur C. Clarke), and Isaac Asimov's Foundation series. All fantastic books.
I recently finished up George R. R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series that others have mentioned (the books that the Game of Thrones tv series is based on). The first three books are absolutely amazing, I highly recommend them. I did think that the following books went downhill quite a ways, unfortunately :. So much potential just not quite realised.

-Necronomicon (The HP Lovecraft collection)
-Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut (for like the tenth time)
Both are really good. I also picked up a copy of the Hunger Games that I might read soon.

aka, what should I read? I asked for book recommendations in a group giveaway recently, and was pleased with the suggestions. As an extension of that, I'd like to hear what y'all are reading... so I can go look those books up too. I've been blessed with the twin gifts of a short attention span, and a powerful memory; I tend to read several books concurrently. What about you?
