Hi all,

I think I will buy some games via trading from steamtrades but I don't know many things.
Is there any link that I can read and learn?

What is key? There are some different keys I think, how can I trade with like 1.5 or 2.5 keys? What is 0.5 key? What is ref? Where can I buy cheapest keys etc.

Thanks for helping

Useable keys: Mann co. Key,CS:GO case key,Dota 2 treasure key( I think) 1.5 keys is 1 key and few refs, but idk how many i guess it's 5 refs.. Refs are coming from crafting X amount of weapons in TF2,cheapest key, well compare the market to the in-game store and you decide.

DOTA 2 Treasure key

  • 10 rare items = 1 DOTA 2 treasure key

Team Fortress 2 Mann Co. Supply Crate Key

  • 8 Refined Metals = 1 TF2 key (maybe 7 ref = 1 TF2 key)

  • 1 Tour of Duty Ticket (ToD) = 1/2 TF2 key

  • Scrap Metal & Reclaimed Metal for certain rate, I don't know

I've yet to see any traders who accepted rare items.

What is a key?
I'm not updated to trading but a key usually costs 1.80$ in real money (Unless the price changed)

So what they mean by 2.5keys is you can pay 4.5$ in paypal for the game.
I believe 1 key = 7 refs in my last knowledge

Refs are Refined metal in TF2
You need 9 scrap metal to craft 1 refined metal.
Scrap metals are obtained by smelting 2 weapons in TF2. So basically 18 weapons = 1 refined metal

A key is a Mann Co. Supply Crate key (TF2) -- most popular or a Treasure Key (Dota 2) or a Case Key (CS:GO).
0.5 key is like 4 ref, plus-minus depending on the trader.
A tour of duty ticket is yet another TF2 item. It is worth like 3.44 refined (see below) which is a little less than 0.5 key.
1 ref is like $0.2 to $0.3 and it's a TF2 item. It is a type of metal in TF2.
TF2 has 3 types of metals -- scrap metal, reclaimed metal and refined metal.
1 scrap metal x 3 = 1 reclaimed metal
1 reclaimed metal x 3 = 1 refined metal
1 refined metal x 4 = 0.5 key
1 refined metal x 7.66 = 1 key
1 refined metal x 0.11 = 1 scrap
1 refined metal x 0.66 = 2 reclaimed metal
and likewise you can do the math.

If you have PayPal money, you can buy keys on www.tf2outpost.com (for around $1.8-1.9 each)
If you have steam wallet money, you must buy it from the market (for around $2.4-2.5 each because it includes tax)

I guarantee you these are the most accurate calculations as of 05/05/14.

Well, this looks perfect explanation. But I couldn't find where can I buy keys from www.tf2outpost.com?
If I'm paying with paypal, the seller of keys must be trustworthy, right?

you could buy TF2/Dota2/CS:GO keys in the steam market.

Edit: Steam market - TF2keys

Use the search option. Put the keys on the left side, search for "money", select "Real World Money" and put it on the right side.
Be very careful though, lots of scammers. Only trade with people with lots of rep on trusted sides like www.sourceop.com or www.tf2trader.com, etc.

I've purchased a number of keys from Norbi on Steamtrades, via Paypal, as well as a few games. That's where I go for TF2 keys.

I will tell u the safest way, Never go first. wait for them to transfer u the key before paying it. Or if they have really high reps, u can still go 1 key by 1 key, so even if they run, u didt pay too much for it. But To be honest, Rep doesnt really counts, i can get people rep me easily, yet i might not be trustworthy(EXMAPLE, I'M 100%TRUSTED). so yea, that all:)

Always check for the reputation of the trader (in the Steamtrades),ask for the link t the profile and check that is the same person.

If you think the deal they are offering is to good, its probably a scam. At the same time, check if the game has been bundled before, that usually lowers the price quite a bit.

Also, double check the dates of the reputation, if you see someone with +40 rep, and all of them date from a couple of days ago, its probably a scammer.

You are going to get burned a couple of time, all of us have fallen for it in one way or another.

Example: if you see someone who if ofering DayZ for 3 Tf2 keys, all of his rep was made in a couple of days, his account is too new, and he insist that you go first, is probably a scammer.

Soooooo many traders here... Use backpack.tf for prices of items (90% of traders do). Buy low sell high or with items overpayment = profit
Be smart and don't get yourself scammed

Personally I trade for games only so the only thing I need to keep current about is the prices of keys and refs.

Supersimple explanation here we go

TF2 weapons exist, they come in drops.
2 (unique, not strange/special/rare crafts/whatever) weapons = 1 scrap.
3 scrap = 1 reclaimed or rec.
3 rec = 1 refined or ref.
1 ref is a standard unit, so 1 rec = .33 ref, 1 scrap = .11 ref, 1 wep = .05 ref, etc.
Hats are also TF2 items, they also come in drops, but are rare. Usually 1.33-1.66 ref each, depending on hat.

This concludes droppable, "free" items.

TF2 keys exist. They unbox crates and give you very little in return. They cost 2.49 US dollars each in the store, and sometimes slightly less in the Community Market. TF2 keys are tied to REAL LIFE MONEY OH MY GOD
Right now a key is about 7.44 ref last time I checked.
So half a key is 3.7222... ref or 3 ref, 2 rec, and a weapon. (3 + .666 + .055 = 3.722)
The price of keys in ref changes depending on things, it's been going up steadily.

Now there exist other special items used as currency. The price of these changes, of course.

Bill's Hat's were a promo for Left For Dead. They cost about 6 keys right now. This changes, of course.
Earbuds were a promotion for OS X users a long time ago. They are currently about 19 keys per bud. Again, this changes.
A Max Head is another special promo item from a long time ago. A Max Head is currently 3 buds.
And so on. Basically, "free" items have a fixed exchange rate - 1 ref always equals 3 rec = 9 scrap = 18 weps.
"Paid" items have an exchange rate to "free" items that changes depending on the market.

Happy Trading, don't get scammed!
