There's nothing for me like Bandcamp. I love it and it's the only source that helps me find new artists thanks to the excellent Bandcamp weekly show. I just don't want to think of the possibility of something bad happening to it and I honestly don't think it will go any time soon because it is profitable.

while the Taco's bandcamp is huge and great is also kind of "safe" for my wallet (meaning i like the music but would mostly stream) i played few secs from your first album and, yes, my wallet will surely suffer some more.
thanks so much, this is eggsactly what i was searching writing this thread🐽

Funny. I saw this thread the day I learned that Darkspace would be releasing a new album next February... I used to purchase lots of CDs, quite a few vinyls and tapes, but the last few years, not really. I would like to preorder that upcoming Darkspace album -and I'm fine with the price, $16 USD- but shipping would cost me $15.75. USD, again. All in all, that would be about 40-45$ CAD. That's... way too expensive for a simple digisleeve (not even a proper digipak). I'm waiting, hoping to see it available on amazon.ca.
Bought a few CDs and some albums in digital format on bandcamp too. But my (physical) collection mostly comes from labels, small distros, eBay and sometimes, from the artists themselves. Most of it is listed on rateyourmusic.
Fun fact: I used to think that artists would get more money from Bandcamp than, say, selling from iTunes or Amazon, but Ronan from VNV Nation (purchased a track from the guy and I had the pleasure to exchange a few emails with him) said that as far as royalties and % go, Bandcamp wasn't actually any better.
So, yes, I still buy music, just not as much as I used to. If I'm not listening to my collection ripped on my computer, I'll use... youtube for my musical needs. O_o no, not premium

I haven't bought any music from Bandcamp, but I've been thinking about it. I've got some stuff on my wishlist. I've also been wanting a lifetime membership to Magnatune, but they only have one option to do so. $300 bucks is out of my price range. Though it is nice that they have free daily downloads.
It's just easier to buy my music from Steam, especially during sales. It only sucks that you have to own a game before you can purchase its OST. Some of my music also came from Humble Bundle, from way waaaaay back, when they had indie soundtracks in with their cheap af indie game bundles.
Here are some of my favorite soundtracks:

I dislike streaming service, I prefer having MP3's that I can listen to whenever I want, whenever I go without the need for an online service. Freedom!

I was never one to buy music, what I had in terms of physical purchases when I was a teenager were a few records. Then when I saw the songs being sold on websites, I thought they were too expensive and then streaming came along. Since then I use Youtube Music and I am satisfied.

I buy CDs from time to time, anywhere I find them (gigs, online shops, physical shops). Mostly for support and collection, I don't really use them.
If the artist I want to support didn't release any physical copy, I'd buy the digital, first place being Bandcamp as it has the lowest cut afaik (especially since Bandcamp fridays). However, it only happened once, but fml I used iTunes as I had some credit left there since forever lmao
I'm a musician myself and my Bandcamp profiles are on the artist side, I'm not sure if this is what you really asked xd
Anyway here they are:

Another vote for bandcamp here. I buy physical from there when the artist provides autographed copies of their albums.

@icaio BTW, if you wanted to direct people to your Bandcamp page, be advised you misspelled the links in your post.

I sometimes end up buying CD's most likely because of nostalgia for days of yore, but there is no way I could ever buy every release I love. I don't buy digital as I prefer my purchases to have something tangible. Which is a thing that bothers me with video games to this day, especially since almost all purchases are for an indefinite service and not literal ownership.

fascinating thing about music is quantity available. like... i'm maybe too much into AI these days but how human can listen, judge, classify sell etc etc all music? it will always be partial. and dunno if there's a machine that "knows" everything about music.
we should have good chances vs AI when it comes to art, tho' :D (sorry for OT)
about ownership: i think i always, always had this... kinda problem (not saying you have same problem!). i need to own that piece: be it an mp3, a cassette, a CD whatever. i have to own it. and that's 100% dumb cause mostly likely won't have the chance to listen to that song ever again (or... will i ever play it?). subscriptions services?? NO WAY. have to own it.
today i'm trying a mix of both. i do still search for a way to own everything i'm hearing, bought my first vinyl since 20 years or so, but don't have the guts to actually open it, i see it as a relic, an hella precious one!
(as for games, not the same. i'm quite happy with service Steam is offering...)
thanks for sharing!

Back in my younger days I bought all my tapes and then later cds. Later in life, things just had higher priority and stress didn't allow me to sit down and listen to music like the old days.
Now it is the same. I might listen to my old library I have and radio. But other then that no. There is to much going on/stress for me to take time. And radio is not like what it used to be, to much commercials and less music.

I buy CDs from artists I like (and whose album I like) because it's like the most affordable piece of merch.
And I do have a nice modern CD player that shows the CD off in a sort of frame.
It's fun to thrift for CDs though. Compilations CDs are so rare, we used to have everything back in the day. Best ofs, romantic songs, club songs.

Bandcamp, but only during Bandcamp Fridays.
Else, Ototoy or Uta 573.
Supraph Online (some Czech store for retail musics that also happens to have some digital ones) if the ones above don't have what I'm looking for or (for Bandcamp) it isn't the right day.
And lastly, Apple's iTunes if it isn't on either of the above.
All because I'm actually buying their musics, given the lack of DRM throughout the stores I listed.
And as for the order...
For Bandcamp, it would be because I'm always hesitant with whomever controls it at any given time and would rather the artist to have the cut.
Ototoy because it seems trustworthy and I have yet to see someone recommending against it.
Uta 573 because it is owned by Konami from what I can gather outside of the site so a vote of trust when Konami is on an ok standing.
Supraph Online because it also seems trustworthy, even asking a Czech contact which recognized it as a retailer. But it's a bit lackluster on the digital selection and the Czech Crown is a bit expensive for me... e.e"
And iTunes because, even though they have a pretty good selection and somehow the titles from the store (not to be confused with the subscription) are actually DRM free, you're stuck with their proprietary launcher in proprietary systems (iOS, Mac and/or Windows). And I don't like Apple. But at least they don't complain about the program being run on a virtual machine, so I just move the musics to the host machine and and make a copy converted to MP3 to play on the go.
And I know there are other stores, but either they use DRM for their releases, they have regional locks, or I have yet to test them.

I'll buy CD's from used goods stores like thrift stores and pawn shops on occasion (since they're normally only $1 or $2), then rip them as FLAC files. I keep the CD's as long as I enjoy them (even though I'm only using the ripped FLAC files), and delete the files + give away the CD's if I don't like them or get tired of listening to them.

You mean not true that there is a great music community on twitch? I spend a lot of time in there and call a lot of them my friends by now, streamers and community members alike. And it depends what kind of music you like. I'll share some whrn I am back at my PC

This is hard to pick. Guess I should start with some of my all time favs.
Courtnay from Northern Ireland. Likes to sing mostly blues and slow pop ballads, plays guitar and started playing piano. She's got some amazing originals and we are still trying to get her to record them, so far no OG music anywhere, but you can find her on Instagram and Youtube with some awesome covers and of course 3 times a week live on Twitch
Here are some covers she did:
H.E.R. - Hard Place cover
Vampire-Olivia Rodrigo
Parachute - Chris Stapelton
The last one she did with Dean Dichoso (great musician/producer and friend from Nashville), that came over to NI to start recording an OG song for her.
Sashiboom originally from Indonesia, now located in Denver, Colerado. She's a live looper, plays guitar, some bass. Musically you can find her in nearly every genre, from Beatles to Nirvana, from 70's up to current stuff and tons of original music. You can find her on Bandcamp and Youtube with some awesome covers and of course several times a week live on Twitch
Some covers and OG's:
Someone Who Loves Me - Sara Bareilles Cover
In case you have no idea what live looping is, here an example of one of her original songs. Basically building a whole "band" with just your instruments and the loop station. Also two more of her originals:
Super - Live Looping on Twitch
STFU - Sashi Gandarum with Nix and Serena Pryne
Work In Progress - sashiBOOM (Music Video)
She also currently has a band, blackcherries, with fellow streamer Ellie Fier from Canada. They have currently one single out on bandcamp and are working on more. The music video for that one is coming out on the 19th. Also here some live footage from their first gig as a band with some of their OGs: Cafe Hotel gig
Ellie Fier also has her own songs on bandcamp and youtube:
Black Lies
If you are more into rock music there is Halocene, they have all their socials on their about page.
Then we have The Mandevilles a band from St. Catharines, Canada, usually a 5 piece rock band, but mostly on twitch as a duo (sometimes there are full band streams). You can find their stuff on youtube and bandcamp:
The Mandevilles - Junkie (Official Music Video)
The Mandevilles - Lightning [Official Music Video]
The Mandevilles - Fading Colors In The Northern Lights [Acoustic Live Video]
There is also The Roxy Gunn Project. They stream a lot of their live shows and also have bandcamp
And Bassboombox, originally from the Netherlands and now in California. She's got a hell of a voice and sings a bit of everything with focus on Metal/Rock covers. Sadly no original music out yet. But if you can catch a stream it is well worth it.
And if you like more chill music there is Danielle Allard also from Canada, she has also some originals that you can find on her bandcamp and youtube
Then there is Closureclub from LA if I remember correctly. You can find his socials on his about page.
And there are many, many more great music streamers on twitch, though this are a few from the top of my head.

Told you. If you have time check the rest out too. They are all amazingly talented people. If you got the time Courtnay should be streaming on Sunday at around 10pm CET, if that is too late for you Tuesday streams are daytime at around 6pm CET.
And I can vouch for her, she's an absolute sweetheart. Met her last summer when I went on vacation to Ireland.
