Anything that doesn't use a gun would be a nice change of pace.

Wow, to hear that from a supposed programmer/coder sounds extremely ignorant.
Ever played games such as infamous, or medieval/fantasy games? Maybe using super-powers as weapons, or kingdom-hearts-style (rapid melee attack combos) multiplayer's would be cool to see.
I'm sick and tired of seeing the same shit as the next game, which usually involves guns. And apparently you don't share that same image as I do, so whatever...

You know, my dream for gaming is where in one game you'll shoot someone and then during a game of say Fifa you'll see their son crying

Yeah.
Some thoughts I've had though was if the level should reset on death?
Make some kind of gungame, where you get a new weapon, lets say each 6 level, and if you die, the "counter" resets.
Sadly, I can't make a level system that "saves" the current state of your level. That requires some SQL and some other server stuff.

Well, I generally prefer something with longer timescale persistent leveling coughKillingFloorcough than something with round-limited leveling or the like coughDotA2cough, although both are interesting and fun in their own way. Just my personal preference, though, of course.

Unfortunately that would bring unbalance (and frustration) in a competitive game. Skilled players would benefit new items while not that good players would be stuck with base equipement.
As wbarton says a more persitent leveling is more interesting, though it may take too long for players to level up their preferred classes. Like in KF where a lot of work has to be done in order to level a single class.

Does anyone remember the The Legend of Zelda: Four swords Multiplayer (on Gamecube)...If this sorts of multiplayer would be available on huge 64-players maps....

2D top-down, maybe not but, how about 3D top-down? Alien Swarm uses the source engine and it a 2D top-down game. I think a good game would be one with a co-op campaign.
I second the 4 Swords Adventures-style game. Just look at the shenanigans that will ensue! :D
Comment has been collapsed.
Yup, doing that in a single player is pretty fun. Now, think about the fun (and shenanigans!) that will happen in a game like that, only multiplayer! :D. Another good example of this kind of game is Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles for the Gamecube
If you can make it both local and online MP, the better ^_^

Hmm, maybe a contra ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBMQhKK3Ctk ) styled 2D Side scroller game, with cooperative mode ( 2-4 player )

Level system - good and popular. Realism - very good, but not popular. Really fast paced - not good but popular.
If u use Source engine I think u can create something like multiplayer game based on the story. Like Left 4 Dead (Zombie - popular, but (in my opinion) already sucks). Create something like history mode for 1-12 players (min). Also challenges, survival modes and nice maps based on physics. And level system. But it's only my opinion.

And what about a RPG game?
The Source Engine is very bad for big open worlds. So, what would be the best way to make a RPG, in your opinion?

The World needs a proper Tank Game.
I would sell my soul to the devil for a really good and half way realistic tank game where at least 2 people are needed to steer one Tank - Gunner and Driver, optional Commander to keep overwatch.
MP Maps should provide a game of at least 10 vs 10, one tank pack against the other with 1 General who can give orders and has limited airstrike capability.
Tanks should be able to shoot SABOT, HEAT and also should have Smoke to pop.
Nightvision should be available.
Hitting the Tank in specific spots should result in broken Chains, a shot into the ammo chamber should not kill the Tank if the commander ejects the ammo quick enough - this is actually realistic. But of course, ammo is gone, but the Tank is forced to retreat and get repairs and restock from nearby Engineers which are controlled by players.
There should be also one spot for one squad by 4 players providing a mix of support with Anti Tank Missiles (Javelin), Engineers and maybe spotters.
I wish I would have the skills to make such a game... :D
Oh and no WW2 Shit. I want to drive M1A2 and Leopards 2, Russian Tanks etc.

I was looking into arma 2, it could be done. But I am a bad modder when it comes to Arma 2.
Does not need to be ultra realistic, but fun to play and tactical gameplay instead of just engineers repairing all the time etc.
Comment has been collapsed.
No, it would be basically Arma 2 in Tanks, just pure Tank Battles with a bit of infantry.
Maps should consist out of hills, forests and maybe even desert at night. Narrow Valleys could work too as ambush places or even cities.
The General could be like in BF or Nuclear Dawn, but he should only know about units the squads know about.
Of course, there could be limited UAV and Awacs control..

I'm not who you were asking, and I'm not trying to hijack the question, but I, for one, think it would be fine as long as it wasn't too over-the-top. Giving them capabilities beyond what modern tanks have: more effective armor and weaponry, better speed, improved communications and spotting, and so on; would be fine, I think. If you started trying to get too sci-fi with it, like energy weapons and stuff like that, it gets kind of iffy in my opinion. Maybe if it was well-done, but still a bit much.

I'd rather see real life tanks. But thats just me :D.

It's a stealth game that requires you to interact with the other players. Murder people without getting caught. Unlike stealth games that require you to be 'invisible' and hide in the shadows with little player interaction.

I have some unique ideas but sorry, they are all for my future games ;). Try to make something new. Absolutly new. What about, idk an action source battle between vampires and humans can by funny. “Think outside the box, collapse the box, and take a fucking sharp knife to it.”

Woo, thats secret ;). Currently i have two ideas. One is for unique co-op RPG and the second one is my own concept of game genre:). But its most likely that i will never finish any of this games. Btw. if you wanna make really interesting game, just thing about game you wanna play. What will be the game, which you will choose ,when you can play MW3, Skyrim, Portal 2 or YOUR GAME? What your game have to be like? Just think about it that way :) (and sorry for my english)

Make Megaman multiplayer. PvP. No fps. Too many shooter game nowadays.

I'm just a random guy on the forums, but I'm pretty sure zombies are a bad idea, especially in a Source game. Not because there is something wrong with zombies but there are so many Source mods/games with them that it would make it pretty generic.

Stealth games we need more stealth games... like the multiplayer of splinter cell (3 and 4), that´s for a Co-Op game
and for a multiplayer a third/first person fast paced + loot + level system (imagine a Borderlands meets Bulletstorm); against mobs.... is there any source based MMO?
Comment has been collapsed.
Usually my main issue with multiplayer is that internet connection can be a factor. Lag and delay can really ruin any game experience, especially in fast paced games. Turn based games seem to effectively neutralize that(I'm thinking something along the lines of "Might & Magic Clash of Heroes" which has an interesting, unique and, most importantly, relatively balanced combat system). Of course this means trowing the actual experience/level system and realism out of the window, no fast paced action and some serious effort on balancing the game. Also, I don't really understand how the source engine works(I'm still a novice programmer at best) and what exactly makes it different from other engines, but it doesn't seem to be very appropriate for turn-based games which usually require a sky view of the battlefield instead of an up-close detailed view. But, well, that's my opinion on multiplayer games, don't know if it helped or not. ;)

Competitive pure Steampunk survival FPS ? Imagine a Killing Floor round based survival with 2 teams of players trying to survive waves of steam golems and other contraptions with harpoon guns, steal assisted launchers, industrial era weaponry. All the while trying not to be taken by surprise by the other team while fighting the mobs.
Basically a perl level based game like Killing Floor with 2 kinds of levels. A persistent level per class which goes up doing class specific actions giving access to better weapon prices and stats. And a per game level that goes up with each kill / round survived that unlocks some weapons and accessories for the game.

Something like the supplier gives you the coordinates and access code to a weapon cache for your noted skills and ability to survive.

Well from I try to imagin stuff that could be good. Other times I have strange dreams, like wanting a hybrid of Rune Factory / Harvest Moon games with a mature The Witcher world.

Hey, I'm a developer for the Source Engine, the programmer/coder.
And I been wondering what would make the best multiplayer Source based mod/game?
Give me your ideas, and I might make something happen :)
