So let me get this straight: you paid 60 bucks for an empty Steam account, just because it's old and has a 4 digit id? And how is this worth ANYTHING?

4 digit = 1,000+ games.

But the fact remains that it isn't worth anything if you got scammed. :P

No it doesn't, read the OP:
"i bought this account because it was member since the day steam gets public. no games in it."

Old Steam IDs were only 4 digits long instead of the long ass 17 digit ones they use now. That's all he was buying :P

I think selling steam account is against user agreement. I would not try it, Am I wrong?

You aren't. It's against Steam's ToS, and is considered pirating.

I think comparing it to piracy is wrong. You can sell your hard copies of games, that's not piracy - so selling a steam account is something like taking your cabinet of games and putting it up for sale.

Besides, this person only bought an account, it had no games in it. Personally I would never do this, but I'm not here to judge.

nope. afaik if you buy physical games you buy them. so no problem on selling them back. but games in a steam account are not bought. you just rent the licence.

But you pay the price of a physical copy? Also even physical copies require you to use Steam to play them these days (mostly just AAA games though). You're buying a physical copy you own, but can't play it without your Steam account.

so what? read the steam tos and rant to gaben. i didn't make the rules and i ain't him.

Steam does a lot of things just because they can and only a small percentage of users read and understand the ToS. Laws do however override any ToS, so depending on the laws in your country, if you lose access to your account for breaking ToS, they have to give it back otherwise they will be breaking the law by denying you access to goods you have paid for.

Instead of being an asshole to OP, maybe you guys could try to be helpful. Did he fuck up? Yeah. Probably wasn't the smartest move, and it is against Steam's ToS. All that being said, who doesn't fuck up and make mistakes? Doesn't mean everyone should be an asshole because of it.

To OP: Contact Paypal and do a chargeback, you should be able to get a refund. Learn from this.

It seems there are some misunderstandings about x-digit steam account. Let me clarify it ;)
For easy explanation, go to http://steamidfinder.com/ and type my profile link in the search box

http://steamcommunity.com/id/raventalon/

FYI, the above link is called "vanity URL" or "vanity ID". You will get

STEAM_0:1:58066004

So mine is an 8-digit steam account. Let's take another example. Type

http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197960265764

And you will get

STEAM_0:0:18

This is a 2-digit account. As you can see, when we talk about "x-digit account", we are talking about Steam2 ID, not Steam3 ID, which is 17-digit long for all account.
Note: the account in my example is famous among CS:GO players ;)
