Dell Venue 8 Pro. Full Windows means you can run your existing games (far as the hardware would support, of course). There's also a virtual game controller program whose name eludes me at the moment, but it was recently launched and it has profiles for many games, and should make games more playable just with a touchscreen.

There are other Bay Trail tablets of this size (such as the Lenovo Miix 2). The Dell's advantage far as I'm concerned is the active stylus, which allows playing mouse games where right mouse click and hover matter. Adventure games, turn based strategy or RPG, etc., should work well on the Dell.

Edit: Here's a thread about games running on the tablet. Not too extensive right now, but a good indication of what's possible. Googling should find other examples.

Edit: The software I talked about is GestureWorks Gameplay.

After a windows tablet I'd say that an iPad is the best gaming tablet. iOS has a lot more games than Android. Perhaps it would even be first because these games are written for touch, but I'd still prefer a Windows tablet for its potential to play games I already own.

The Sony Ericson Xperia. Or if you already have a good enough phone, get a Moga

Benchmarks

Everyone I've spoken with says to go with the latest from Samsung. I'd go with Samsung due to Apple for suing them. Apparently they infringed upon Apple's patent for a rectangular electronic device with rounded corners.

Nyko and Moga are good looking bluetooth gamepads for any Android 3.0+ device.
