Remember last year with the potatoes? That sale was insane. And then you had coal and stuff for christmas and objectives to complete and basically Valve turned their own sales into a metagame through Steam. It made the sales FUN!

But this year seems like a mess. It seems like it was slapped together in a very short space of time almost as an afterthought. The timing and implementation of the flash and community deals seem both cheap and sloppy too.

Valve Quality is something you usually see across all Valve mediums but this time I've got to say I haven't been as overwhelmed with the excitement of the sales as I was for christmas and last summer. It's a shame really.

I can't take you seriously when your complaint is "we're not getting enough free entertainment". They're a shop, not a fucking circus. They certainly don't have to give you free shit. Oh, I'm sorry, having the majority of your catalogue at -50 to 75% is simply not good enough these days. Should they also take you out back and fellate you? Some of you people are ungrateful as fuck.

And yeah, it turns out, people abused those mechanics last year. Guessing that's at least partially responsible for not having them again this year.

Blame the abusers from Winter Sale.

But it's a sale, Valve don't NEED to run it. It's good to have for their customer base cos it makes people spend money but they don't have to have a sale... People will still buy stuff. Just be grateful you had the chance to get stuff discounted.

Why do people feel too entitled to insane sales, free gifts and being rewarded somehow for buying games that are already 80% off?

If Valve gives me a sale, any sale (especially for 75-90% off decent titles), I say thank you and so should you.

Bitch at EA for their Origin summer sale (or lack thereof) instead of harking on Valve for giving a damn.

You know why you don't like this sale?

You already have the most games you wanted, in the last sales. And everyone expect to get something for free.

I think people are being a little harsh on the OP here, I understand what you're saying OP, but I think you have it the wrong way around. I'm not underwhelmed by this sale, the sale is what it should be - a period of time where products sold are discounted. Valve usually overwhelm me with their games, free gifts and general interaction with the community during the sale period.

This isn't a bad sale, they just haven't overwhelmed me like last Summer or Christmas.

Whether this is by design or because they were pushed for time, I couldn't say.

I liked this time, it's more relaxed than last years' coal rush. Also, no cheaters with alt accounts gathering coal/gifts/coupons.

Did I mention I hate coupons?

Stop fucking talking about winter sale abuses -.- They had a ticket system last year where you CANT cheat. Wouldnt be a huge problem to do that this year too but noooo...

I admit that this sale is more boring because there are no achievements and chances to win stuff. The discounts have also gone down compared to last year and the one before. Still a pretty good sale I think, and I bought several games and will buy a few more to keep in my inventory.

I keep thinking about this sale in the context of Valve Economics, as an experiment in how flash sales, repeated sales and the community choice affect the sales results.

It seems that people didn't really read what I wrote. Yes, I already have most of the games that interested me in the sales, and no I'm not ungrateful and I realise that Valve sales don't cost me a penny and yet benefit me to no end. That isn't my argument.

My argument is that the sales don't seem to live up to the quality of Valves previous endeavours. Please stop putting words in my mouth and scolding me for things I didn't say.

It must be a lot of work to put together the sales events like in the past summer and winter sale, coordination with all the other publishers and the deals, make sure all the achievements are implemented, even more with so many games and developers. If anything, this summer sale has shown us that those were exceptional occasions, not something that Valve was going to do every few months.

So yeah, maybe next winter, or next summer. Who knows? I certainly like my materialistic frenzies with some achievements and pointless items!

This was easily the worse sale in my opinion. So many recycled deals. I was expecting achievements and an equivalent of coal collecting. The sales should be getting better and better but this has made me doubt Valve's sale ability :S

I blame the lack of community prizes/games etc. on the incidents that happened during the Christmas sale
