I'm unsure if I ever heard about this feature on Steam

uh, do you think the key won't work?
I still have this game in library, so I guess it's like one of those removed games which you can still activate?

Sorry, I really didn't mean to imply anything - I just haven't knew about this Steam feature, that a publisher can turn their game 'private' like this. (The quoted part is from the game's store page)

It's not so rare (see Lego Hobbit for example).
If it's their new way to remove a game from the Steam store, then I like it. Because keeping a store page with that message (and no purchase options) is far better than totally removing the Steam store page like they did for many games before.

Do not worry. It does not prevent to activate the key. By the way, using a key is now the only way to get the game, since Steam does not sell it anymore. So we can say that your game key is now more valuable than before ;)

Good guy Bethe$da did the same with Skyrim, so people buy the new $kyrim with their paid mod$.

It seems like a slightly different case even if it says the same words, since it looks like you can still buy skyrim but anti-opoly can't be bought
(I own both and it didn't give me the option to buy anti-opoly for others, but it did with skyrim. This seems more like https://store.steampowered.com/app/376870/Minecraft_Story_Mode__A_Telltale_Games_Series/) Which is interesting since it seems like there's different choices for how that feature is used, or it's combined with another feature

Well, I think the fact that you can buy one and not the other might not necessarily mean that their situation is different. For example Dark Souls can't be bought, but if you search the game on the store, it still appears, and there's no "notice" saying you can't buy it.
I mean, in practice, it seems to be the same, I don't think it really matters :)

fair enough

I never had problems to activate a game that was not more sold, but had a store page that not more pop up at the search page -but as example from your game library with the shop button at the side of the game :o)-.
So don't worry, all will be fine with the key and activation.
