LOL

so, i have started googling and learnt from YouTube "How To":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEX-owccgGo

kawarawari

About
Those who practice Karate often do Kawarawari for mental training.
Kawarawari has traditionally been limited to only those who do martial arts.
But not at our dojo.
Here, everyone can do Kawarawari.
Please enjoy it with us.

Caution
Japanese kawara is created at extremely high temperatures of over 1,200 degrees Celsius.
Because of its strength you could be injured.
Participate at your own risk.

Get ready and enjoy!

How to

  1. Check that your kawara is stacked in a straight line. Make sure to have a towel and gloves.
  2. Grab some salt and scatter it to the sky in the manner of a sumo wrestler.
  3. Bow deeply and show respect.
  4. Concentrate, focus your 5 senses, and breathe deeply.
  5. Check everything before you begin.
  6. Focus and breathe deeply once more.
  7. Aim and strike the middle.
  8. When you are finished smile and take a picture!

but then, i was curious about the material. and found that a "kawara" is a "clay roof tile":

it looks like you've substituted clay with cement, in modern times. am i right?

+a special tile, just for you, Kappa:

The tile for practicing karate is ...
Clay tiles. Cement tile. Concrete tile.*
Aliases names "Tekken Kawara(Tile)" or "Karate Kawara(Tile)" or "Tameshi Kawara".
Recently, plastic practice tiles are also on the market that can be easily restored once broken.

Also, the tile on the roof of the attached image is called "Oni-Kawara" and is "Amulet". Don't break it.

karate boards come pre-broken also

i would think using cement would be bad as clay will crack easier when hit, more so if you over cook the clay. these "skills" are half technique and half trickery, kinda like walking on fire/hot coals. if you don't know the trick you can easily get hurt.

i've read something like "clay is costly"... anyway, i think is also on the high temperature... the trick. the more you cook the more it hardens... something like glass: hard, very strong, still very fragile.

that said, i'd try it right away! :D

thanks for stopping by
