Because the developer stated that after the retirement of the game from online stores would be impossible not only to buy, but also activate keys of the base game and DLC's. I don't remember which key store sell a bundle, I think it was Humble Bundle, they stated also that the keys had to be activated within a certain date or they won't work.
oh, thanks for that - will have a look at what I can find out. I also gifted the base game a few days ago and the winner did activate it successfully. These keys came from a Fanatical bundle and am not aware of a deadline to activate those keys. Guess I and the winners will find out in a few hours
