Description

Welcome to the thirty fourth week of the 52 weeks of Christmas!!! What is the 52 weeks of Christmas you might ask? I will be giving away a new game each week for 52 week. To make things more fun, I will be asking a new question each week also. I hope that by doing this I may brighten someones week. I even create a group on Steam where you can follow every giveaway(link at the bottom).I hope you will have as much fun as I do with this.

New Week, New Questions

Q1: Immersion is an important part of some game. Game’s developers try to convey a sense of immersion through the game mechanics, atmosphere and sound. Some games brings your characters to worlds or countries where the spoken language is different that the one he speaks, while sometimes he is able to understand it through technology others he is not supposed to. However even with this limitation, the game sometimes breaks the immersion by allowing the gamer to know what is going on while you see the character struggling to understand the situation.
For the sake of immersion would you rather have the game leave these sections in the original language without any subtitle a la Max Payne 3 or would you rather know everything that happens in the world?

In the case of foreign characters (if you speak English) would you want them to speak in their native tongue if they are in their own country like the Metro (2033, Last Light) allow you to do?

Do you have a topic or a question you would like to be featured as the question of the week? Leave it in this thread.thread.

Thank you, God bless to you all as well!

"In response, I must say that I love having a unique level of immersion that is accompanied by something such as a language barrier. I personally find it interesting if the protagonists or myself even doesn't understand the language, but I do like being able to know what is being said, much like the "Knights of the Old Republic" style of translation, but a complete loss of translation [like the case of the first 'Mercernaries' game for Xbox] had a great appeal as well to me.

I say that any way that the developers wish to create a sense of immersion for a game, no matter how bizzare in most case, is a great special part that makes that game stand out in its out way, and hopefully improves the experience of those who seek these kinds of things, like I often do. :D"

Cheers! - Beeps!

actually i apreciate knowing what's happening in the world otherwise you'd feel lik eyou missed some crucial story element though ofcourse if a game plays its cars right those"behind the schenes"events are un-needed

I would prefer my character understanding languages that he/she/it is supposed to understand. But I would really appreciate an unlockable option that allows me to understand what the characters are saying... at least after I beat the game once.

My English skills were caused mostly by playing games, and I understood more and more in each game I played. So I guess it's good to leave player somewhat puzzled. If I want to know what's going on - there's almost always subtitles, and if there aren't any - I'm not gonna be mad, the immersion will not break =)
