Description

Do you know those posts that advertise gamer communities? Consider this the exact opposite - I'm looking (reluctantly and carefully because introverts gonna introvert) for a relatively small and friendly gaming group that could help me re-learn to enjoy online gaming :)

Self-promoting pitch: I'm 30F living in Europe, still very unused to "3" in the front, speaking fluent decent-ish English, broken but steadily improving German, native in Polish, compulsively polite and always writing too much (as depicted). I've played a ton of games in the past - I used to be an okay support in MOBA games, a team mascot with mean random aim in shooters, and a designed wood collector/interior designer in various suvival sandboxes. I also always enjoyed hanging out in voice channels (good ol' times of TeamSpeak), talking about all the things, from cascading sarcastic jokes, through the most convoluted nerd ideas, to very real IRL stuff. Speaking of IRL, I also do some sport (recently bouldering and about to get back to cycling), drawing, learning to play guitar, can complain for far too long about SSRI-s, and currently reading the crap out of Horus Heresy books (pre-WH40k). Plus I'm a dog person.

I'm probably one of those weird people who have too many games to play, too little motivation to do so, especially online, having absolutely no tolerance towards toxicity. There is a bunch on my hard drive or in my scope of interests: Escape From Tarkov, Final Fantasy XIV, Guild Wars 2, Apex Legends, Warframe, Path of Exile, Elite Dangeours, Project Zomboid, No Man's Sky, still struggling to finish Baldur's Gate 3 and Hades, soon to lose a couple of days to new Rimworld content, and some more to modding.

Does any of it sound familiar? If you by any chance search for someone to join the ranks of your gaming friends, also if that concerns the games not listed above, feel free to send me a message here or on Steam - I promise to be more socially awkward than you :)

If not, then thank you for reading this wall of text anyway, and I hope you have a great day! ^^ Extra whitelist cheat-code: post a picture of your favorite animal in games. Fantastic creatures also count!

The key comes from an old bundle, but it should work without any problems!

Hah, doubt it!^^
Stopped playing online games years ago myself, partly for similar reasons,
so i really hope you'll manage to find what you're looking for.

Thank you :)
Is that screenshot from The Long Dark? I thought the only doggos in there are the ones that want to bite your face off... Need to play the story-mode finally.

It's from The Red Lantern, there's a lot of dog petting in there and none of them's trying to eat your face.^^

The Long Dark is also one of the many games somewhere on my ever-growing list of games I'm totally planning on playing eventually...

Now that's a reason to go back to that game!

...eventually. Any day now. Soon(TM).

I promise to be more socially awkward than you

Is this a challenge?

Jokes aside, good luck with your endeavor, some of the things you wrote indeed sound familiar, however I don't think there's much game compatibility here:
I own EFT (was gifted, actually, would never buy this on my own because there's so many red flags), but after giving it a try couple of times I started to hate it really quickly because it's such a poorly developed bug-ridden mess.
I "own" Apex, but I put in doubt whether I am going to play it again, after the recent fiasco with a possiblity of RCE exploit being present in the game.
Project Zomboid and No Man's Sky are on my wishlist, and that's about it from that list of yours.

I don't know if that's my favourite animal in games, but it's probably up there and I can't think of anything else right now.

Ikr? It's always funny how we always think we're socially awkward and then the other person is like "hold my <beverage of choice>" :)

EFT is a tough nut to crack, that's true - aside from the bugs and questionable development choices, it's sadly also plagued by cheaters. I had some fun playing with a good friend recently, but we both got quite annoyed by the everlasting question "did that guy just spot me through the wall?". I recently started playing a single-player mod for Tarkov and it's surprisingly good with community-made mods, but of course that's something else than competing against players. It's sad to hear that Apex can also be susceptible to a foul play :(

Both Zomboid and NMS are still in active development (especially PZ), so it will never be too late to grab them :)

I have no clue what are those creatures on the screenshot, but they look oddly comfy drifting with their legs up like that :D

Well, you're certainly brave enough to make a post like this, I'd never. On side note, I used to play PvP online games far more often in the past, including some semi-competitively (if you can call it that), but nowadays if I do play something online it's usually some coop.

I have played quite a bit of the SPT (and even helped them in a way, with how one little bug occurs) and I actually prefer something like that to how EFT PvP works (that is, in my opinion, it does not), but it's still marred by the design decisions like the atrocious quests and general tedium. I think I reached something like level 30 playing it, and frankly I don't know when/if I'm going to come back to it, since the game is very same-y after a while, the gameplay loop isn't enough to keep me going after reaching that far (and doing it all over again...). It just feels like a waste of time, especially since it also wipes due to incompatibility of saves, just like normal EFT also feels like waste of time, because you just lose everything at some point and need to do it all again.

I'm kind of monitoring Zomboid, because it's still in EA, and "luckily" I missed opportunities to get it cheaper than it is now, maybe someday. I'm not that hyped about either of those two, PZ or NMS, it just looks like something I might enjoy, so it's on my wishlist.

Those critters on the screenshot are Downy Crakes, rare type of endemic life (pretty much passive fauna) from Monster Hunter: World. I love birds and my house in-game is pretty much chock full of all birds I could get my hands on, lol. I love the game, but I played most of it with someone and that person won't play it with me anymore, so I pretty much just gave up on playing it on my own, I have no one else to play it with.

They are just chilling out in the hot springs.

It took me only three years to gather that bravery :) I don't think I would ever find it to play competitively (even semi-), coop with friendly, "safe" people is the way :)

Ahh, I see, it looks like you're better informed about SPT (and EFT in general) than me :) including reaching the annoyance and boredom of repeatable game loop, the infamous infuriating quests and so on... You point at fair and serious issues, especially when playing solo, and even though SPT can solve some QoL issues regarding time-wasting and unnecessary tediousness (god bless More Checkmarks mod), it won't fix the fundamental problems that you describe.

I could chill in the hot springs with those birds :) It sounds like a great theme to build your in-game house around, would you mind sharing some screenshots of the place? I'm sorry to hear that you can't play the game with that person, it sucks to lose a gaming partner, and getting back to the title solo is often just not possible :( I have to admit that this is one of the reasons behind my (frankly speaking, a bit desperate) post: I used to be a part of a great community but lost touch with most of the people there, which made me realize how much of my fun in games was related with good company.

I never really achieved much in actual EFT (and I think you probably know more about actual EFT than me), because of my dislike of various mechanics (as mentioned already), but also the first time I tried it, it worked really poorly on my PC despite having a better rig than the friend I played with, it only barely ran on minimum settings, and because the gameplay relies on vision quite a bit I could never really do anything, because everything was just a messy blob of pixels with low frame count, lol.
I reinstalled it after getting a new PC, but after playing SPT before (which ran better than actual EFT...), I only checked how it runs, but I didn't really bother playing it anymore. I'm not ruling out trying it again, but I just don't think that the game is for me.
Well, there's also the fact that the game is competitive at its core, and its mechanics and my own abilities simply just can't agree with each other, and I don't like being dead weight in games like this.

This is probably why I enjoyed some of the games in the past on more competitive level, because hey, I was actually somewhat decent at them.

As for my in-game MH:W house, well it's mostly that in the whatever preset pet slots that accept birds, I've put birds. It's not really much of a theme, like decorations, lamps etc. I just put in whatever looked good enough for me.

Unfortunately, the theme of losing gaming friends is all too familiar to me, but I don't think this is the right place to dwell on something like that.

Ahh, you're right, EFT's performance is a total mess and manages to make a sad joke out of good, modern PC setups even these days, not to mention horrendous memory leakage and graphical shit that is a real disadvantage in-game - for example I experience what you described: at a longer distance, any object, including enemies, turns into a blob of pixels :( In case you feel like shooting something again soon, the SPT miracle-makers are about to release the new update in April, but as you said, perhaps it's just not a game that can offer your what you search for in gaming.

All fair and fine, thank you for sharing your thoughts here, I appreciate it :)
