Ah, this reminds me of "Ars gratia artis", lit. Art for art's sake, a made-up latin phrase based on an originally French phrase concerning the philosophy of art. You've all seen it before and didn't know: it appears above the head of the roaring lion in the MGM logo that plays before a lot of movies.
