I don't really believe in robots or AIs taking on the world, unless they're programed to do so, and if so, they can be reprogramed as well. As for technologically superior alien invaders ... Arthur C. Clarke said "Two possibilities exist: either we are alone in the Universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.". Just remember what the conquistadors did with the aztecs.
