Description

My first region-restricted gift! I'm sure you're getting tired of these GAs (thanks, Groupees!) but hopefully some of you would still like the game. :)

  • I basically met my wife in Germany. Technically, we met in an American airport, but we were on the way to Germany with our choral tour group. We were pretty inseparable for those few days in Köln. We climbed the steps of the Dom, went to the Deutsches Klingenmuseum, and got to sing at the Kölner Philharmonie.
  • My father spent a semester abroad in Germany (regrettably I don't recall where), so he developed a fondness for the country. He also picked up a taste for German music, so our car trips didn't feature Disney tunes, it featured Kraftwerk's Autobaun and Radioaktivität (had to look up the spelling to that last one!). I have many (but not all) of their albums now.
  • My favorite choral director is German (living in America), and I've sung many of the masterworks of the great German composers for her-- Bach, Brahms, Beethoven, of course...and probably a couple of others. :) My favorite is Ein Deutsches Requiem. My conductor considers Wie lieblich sind deine Wohnungen the "real" German national anthem. ;-)
  • Due to my love of Germany, and increasing interest in international football/soccer, I've tended to root for Die Mannschaft. Because of this, in the WC2014, I picked them in my pool despite no European team having won in the Americas. I'll let 7-1 and then Mario Götze speak for itself. Oh, and I won the pool. :)
  • Thank you for reading. I'm not sure if I'll be able to enter my own giveaway to respond to comments, since it's a region-restricted giveaway! [Edit: looks like I can.]

Autobahn!
Although with the amount of traffic jams and resurfacing going on it's more like an Auto barn :D

Thank you very much :), it's always astonishing to read what kind of reputation Germany has overseas ;).

Thank you for the giveaway and nice to read your text. :)

Been to Cologne once and of course visited the Cologne Cathedral aswell. Sometimes I also listen to classical music or piano songs, like Divenire from Einaudi or Piano Sonata No. 14 from Beethoven.

The first movement of the "Moonlight Sonata" (as it's known here-- didn't even know it was No. 14) is perhaps my favorite piece of music ever created. It's amazing how such a simple melody...simple piece really, can evoke so much emotion. And I didn't even know until recently that it was just one of three movements. That third movement is memorable in its own right!
I just listed to the Divenire as well and it's very nice. :)
