Everything is better in coop, if you have a right company!
Judging by the hours spent and amount of fun we had my coop pick goes to the Borderlands 2. First game is also good, but the second is improved in almost every way. Spicy humor, non-stoppable action, ton of shooting, looting, upgrading, riding and questing. It's also good for multiple playthroughs - different characters allows for a different playstiles. Not to mention that coop brings a lot of chaos, so you'll probably miss out a lot of stories and details first time around.
My second place goes for Don't starve together. Survival with unique artstyle and deadly world. Very deadly. Everything can kill you - from bees and flowers to deerclops and pigmans. But slowly figuring it all out and surviving each time a little longer feels great. It also have some of the best gaming stories if you sort reviews by "funny". Or you can just play the game and make your own unforgettable adventure!

I played Borderlands 2 quite a bit with an old friend in college and always had a good time even though I'm not very good at FPS games. I agree they definitely improved the whole overall feel and style of the game for the second one.
I JUST STARTED PLAYING YESTERDAY!! I'm super excited but haven't got the hang of things yet. But I have learned a little and had fun. I traded two keys for this worth well over the games cost and I regret nothing! The art alone was worth it. c:

About Don't Starve Together - it's not the easiest game to master, but it's fun lies more in unexpected errors and experiences, and not in the proficiency. But to get at least basic survival tips I recommend reading some guide for beginners on steam or look for some explanatory videos on youtube. Just to get oriented in the dangers and needs and have some short-term goals instead of just roaming around and trying to make a sense of every mechanic by yourself. I mean, this way is fun too, but sometimes could be too overwhelming

I'm currently trying to decide how much I want to learn as a play and how much I want to know going in to strategize.
