As pointed out in the comments you will need one of the following to play the game:
- Rocksmith Realtone cable
- Microphone (for acoustic guitars)
- External sound card/audio interface (Rocksmith 2014 can be setup this way unlike the original Rocksmith, a bit trickier to setup depending on your interface)
- An amp (you can have Rocksmith 2014 running in "Disconnected" mode where you aren't required to have anything plugged into the pc and just play along with your guitar and amp)

I'm sure you know this, but the Rocksmith Realtone cable is required to play this. You don't have to, but I'd suggest verifying that the winner owns one if you care about them playing it! Not sure whether support would grant a reroll in that situation but I'm sure you could ask.

We once had a giveaway here where the host whitelisted those who proved they did indeed have a guitar. This way, he was sure that at least the game will fall into someone's hands who might find a use for it and that it is a part of their hobby.

I remember a similar giveaway a while back, think it was for the original version.
The giver required either a picture of the cable or an order confirmation for it I think. The fact that it works with microphone now makes it so much more accessible :)

Why would someone have the cable as they do not have this software ? I get that the point is giving this to someone who will actually benefit from it.... But I think its more logical to buy the app-specific cable when you get the app

You can't plug your guitar in other ways? I have a processor so I just used an USB cable and that worked on tons of other software for me.

Apparently you can use a microphone for acoustic guitars. With the original Rocksmith external sound cards didn't work as far as I'm aware, but maybe that's changed with this one
