The giveaway ends on icaios cakeday, wich incidentally is also my RL birthday.

This one comes from the heart. I only started playing the Trails-series this year. Right now I´m somewhere in the middle of the second game. I´m enjoying it a lot and If you like old-school JRPGs and have no problem with slow pacing, you will likely too. I´m amazed how well written the dialogues and characters are, and even conversations with random NPCs and little sidequests usually hold interesting bits for world- and character-building. Thats something I really love to see in RPGs.
...also the graphics and music give me those warm and fuzzy Ragnarok Online vibes 💗

Bonus:
This game functions basicly as a prologue and is incomplete without part 2.
If you manage (or get somewhat close) to finish this game within six month after winning and you´re really enjoying it, just contact me and I´m gonna throw in the second game for free.

Early Happy Birthday, RavenWings!!! What a beautiful tribute.

Does anyone know if this game can be played mouse only, in a point and click way? If I google it, it seems possible, but I tried the Trails game that has a demo and couldn’t do that (iirc click and hold was necessary for movement).

I originally played it on Steam Deck, but just fired it up on desktop to give this a try. And yes, you can move by holding the mousebutton, so not exactly point&click and I couldn´t find an option to change that. In general, it seems surprisingly well optimised for mouse-only gameplay. Even all menus are accessible without having to use the keyboard. Only the camera-rotation by mousewheel seems weird.

Thanks and good luck! ^^

Thank you so much for checking - that's so nice of you! Looks like I need to take it off the wishlist until I can find a solution for not being able to hold a button continuously, so it's really helpful to find that out :) Hope you have fun with the rest of the series.

No problem :)

I´m sure there is some tool you could use to cofigure the mouse to cycle between "pressed" and "unpressed" with each click, but this might also lead to other problems in menus or precision moves. Not sure.

I remember the Steam-Version of Final Fantasy 9 having real point&click movement. Not sure if menus etc. work as well, but it might be worth a look if you don´t have it already.

There is something like that! I didn't know that about Final Fantasy 9, I will definitely have a look! Thank you again :)

Yeah, its cetainly an extensive series. There is a long (and hopefully enjoyable) journey ahead of me 😅 I´m really eager to see how the games and stories develop over time, but it´ll probably take me a few years to catch up to the newer titles. Step by step, game by game 😉

Thanks and all the best!

Holy crap... here I was thinking Trails in the Sky was more or less a stand-alone game. I had heard of SC but didn't put together in my head that it meant "second chapter". After more digging there's actually a third game in the Liberl Arc (aka Trails in the Sky the 3rd) of The Legends of Heroes ... but there's a whole lot more to Legends of Heroes than just Trails in the Sky. There's a "Gagharv Trilogy" only released in English on the PSP that comes before Trails in the Sky. There's a Crossbell Arc with 2 games (Trails From Zero and Trails to Azure), an Erebonia Arc (Trails of Cold Steel 1-4 with an anime in the middle), a "Legend of Heroes: Trails Into Reverie" which ties up both the Crossbell and Erebonia arcs ... and they're still working on the Calbard Arc (Trails Through Daybreak), with only 1 and 2 in English and a 3rd game ("Kai no Kiseki - Farewell, O Zemuria") having recently been released in Japan and not translated yet (slated to be released in "early 2025"). Plus there's one more game planned to complete the Calbard Arc.

Yeesh. 16 games, plus an anime ... "extensive" is certainly the correct word. And all of that is ignoring the "Dragon Slayer" games that the entire Kiseki series is a spin-off from. I'm not even sure I want to go down THAT rabbit hole.

Yeah, the sheer size of the saga and the rather high prices of the games (for their age) are quite intimidating and are probably the main reasons why I didn´t start playing the games ealier, even though they´ve always been on my radar. I´m really glad to be able to play them on the Steam Deck, otherwise I might´ve never found the time.

I try not to read too much info in order to avoid accidentally spoil the stories, but before I started playing, I had to get some understanding on what the series entails, where I should start and in wich order to play them. Like you, I wasn´t sure what "SC" means and expected it to be some kind of remaster of the fist game... almost started my journey there xD
And yes, there is a thrid game in this arc. From my understanding, the main story is concluded in the second game and the third is more of an epilogue. But a worthwhile one. I´m certainly gonna play it before moving on to the next arc (Zero/Azure).

This is actually the first time I´m hearing of the Gagharv Trilogy. Guess I gotta look into that too xD

It gets really complicated really quickly. The original "The Legend of Heroes" was actually a Dragon Slayer game, which is its own (very old) series that includes things like Xanadu. There is a remake on PSX that combines "Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes" I & II ... that should tell you how old they are. Then there was a "The Legend of Heroes II: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch" (note the "Dragon Slayer" part is gone) that begins the Gagharv Trilogy, followed by "The Legend of Heroes: A Tear of Vermillion" and "The Legend of Heroes III: Song of the Ocean" which ends the trilogy... all 3 games have remakes on the PSP, which included certain upgrades but are also the only (official) version with an English translation. If the REMAKE is on the PSP, you know how old THEY are. They may not actually be worth investing too much time and effort into.

Allright, I looked a bit into it and it seems the Gagharv games are very only loosely connected to the Trails-games, while the rest is unconnected but shares a lot in style and values (similar to the Final Fantasy games, where each game is different but still feels like Final Fantasy). Very interresting, but for now I´m gonna put those on the "maybe someday" pile of games ^^
I´m an old dude though (turned 42 yesterday), so I´m not averse to old school gaming, having grown up with C64, NES and Atari.

Wah, that look REALLY good! If its only the first game, its probably gonna be a few years until they finish the whole Liberl arc. Maybe I´ll manage to play the whole series before then and can enjoy a "good old times"-replay with these remakes 😊

If I'm reading the information at that link correctly, it comes with Japanese voices built in but you can download a patch at that link to install English voices (or Chinese voices if you have the Chinese version).

You got it in reverse. The Steam/GOG version has English voice only, the China retail version has Chinese voice only. Depend on your version, you have to download the correct Japanese voice patch.

It isn't that the English voice acting is not good, it's just my preference to consume media in its original form.
I do watch "dub" while I'm multitasking, but only after I watched "sub".

Ah, okay. The line about "this feature never made it overseas" must have confused me. I agree, I prefer the original Japanese voices whenever possible, unless I'm doing other stuff at the same time and I can't pay enough attention to read the screen every time somebody speaks. I hope to actually learn Japanese someday but I'm have a lot of difficulty for some reason. Language teaching apps are like "Water", "newspaper", "Brother", "Brother, I need some water to give to this plant. Will you please stop reading your newspaper and bring some here?" wut? You can't just give me one or two vocabulary words then throw a whole freaking paragraph at me and expect me to learn anything.

I started studying Japanese some months ago, so I'd like to share some experiences.
My study goal isn't time-critical, so I don't put much pressure into it. It's just for fun, after all.

I roughly follow this routine, "30 Day Japanese".
I waste a lot of time digging into language details, so I found that unless I spent 8 hours per day, that 30-day goal is far reached.
Likewise, I spend no more than 3 hours per day.

For textbook, I recommend the book "はじめての日本語能力試験" (Tango).
It's a book series that helps you prepare the vocabulary for the JLPT exam (5 books from N5 to N1).
The strong point of this book is that each example sentence is based on previously learned vocabulary, so you won't be overwhelmed with new words.
I use this book as a companion to Anki (digital flashcard program), more detail is below.

There's another book series "みんなの日本語" (Minna no Nihongo) that is very popular with Japanese language centers in my country. It focuses on both vocabulary and grammar.
I end up with the Tango book by accident.

If you buy textbooks, take a look at the domestic publishing houses.
Here, I found that the licensed, localized versions are priced only one third of the version printed in Japan.

For grammar, I recommend this YouTube playlist: "Japanese from scratch: the game-changing course in organic Japanese".

As mentioned above, I use Anki for vocabulary learning.
There's a user-made deck for the Tango book here.
https://www.reddit.com/r/LearnJapanese/comments/ojx0lt/paying_1100_for_an_anki_deck_review_of_the_jlpt/
The textbook is more of a quality check tool, also, some grammar and usage notes aren't inputted into the Anki deck.

The "30 Day Japanese" routine mentioned above recommends the Kaishi deck for Anki.
But I think this deck has a critical flaw, it forgoes the strong point of the Tango book (see above).
You will sometimes find example sentences that are not only long, but also have multiple new words.
I use both decks, but I often pause the Kaishi deck and only resume it when I catch up in the Tango deck.

Be conservative when estimating your goal, I always add an extra 20-50% time to account for the unknown.
If you think you'll need 10 hours to study 200 words, set aside 12-15 hours actually to do it.
Don't be upset if you miss your daily goal, care more about long-term goals, bi-weekly, monthly...
Just don't be too lazy and let it slip too far.

Don't put too much effort into perfecting the handwriting stroke order and speaking pitch accent.
Think of them as byproducts of your study.

Learning a language is like playing a game, it should be fun, not a chore.

Hello, according to my notes (thank you ESGST) you were blacklisted 75 weeks later, and it was because almost all of your giveaways are region locked. Hope you enjoyed Plague Inc :)

PS it's quite possible my notes are wrong!

Well, it happened a few weeks after the Just Die Already giveaway.

Almost all? That couldn't be farther from the truth. In reality, I haven't set ANY region restrictions that weren't set by stores like Humble or Fanatical (yeah, we were charged for a higher amount due to their "custom" exchange rates and we still get region-locked keys while others get ROW). Still, I've opened them for as many countries as possible. Most of my giveaways were non-region-locked bundled/subscriptions/Kickstarter games till 2020. Since 2020 I haven't had as much spare money as before to buy bundles and subscriptions, so I sold my CS GO skins and started doing giveaways with gifts instead of keys (and you can't buy games to other countries from my country, sadly). And after 24.02.2022 most big publishers and stores stopped their operations in my country, so there is almost no way to buy non-region-restricted keys for a reasonable price and be sure, that the key will work — so, I mostly give away region-restricted Steam gifts for now. Still, I'm pretty sure that I've given away no less ROW keys than I won (at least it is so in real CV percentage).

I don't really care about blacklists on SG — someone will always blacklist you no matter what you do or say (or don't do and don't say). But that's a pretty strange reason.
