So... Tell me about your life.
If it doesn't give me an excuse to drink, I'm not interested.

You must tell us who won this year!
But for real I haven't seen it (thanks!) but I've heard about Spanish Easter that it's quite intense. Maybe a little too much but at least it's something original :).
Even more than... Spanish Inquisition!

As kids, we'd get the "Easter Bunny" pulling a Santa Claus on Easter Sunday with baskets full of chocolate and sometimes bunny dolls (but mostly chocolates). During the morning we would go to church all dressed up and sit through mass . At night we usually we have ham or lamb as the entree for dinner. Overall there are certain items we can get only around Easter, like Easter Bread (think giant sweet bun) or basket cheese (which is kind of like a sweet ricotta or mozzarella). But as adults we still do that sort of thing, though the chocolate comes in saner doses and church is less mandatory.

Thanks for your story, Lisshearn! It's really interesting to read about how differently people even in one country are celebrating the same occasion :). What can be more important, what can be less.
I am getting much from this thread... damn, I'm glad I made it! ^^

Happy easter too !
In France, sunday, some don't celebrate, some gather with family and share chocolate. In some families, children find Easter Eggs in garden and their parents give them gifts. The day before, saturday night, the last christian families goes to mass. Sunday morning, there are very few people in church because they prefer to sleep and stay at home.

Your country (and how France is laic now) is very interesting phenomenon. In Poland also more and more people are not interested in this more religious part of the Easter but on those special occasions most of Poles gather in churches even if they ignore it every Sunday. Also for us most important is Sunday morning when we celebrate resurrection. Rest is only an addition to this main part.
Thank you very much for your informations :).

I don't know much about traditions in my country, we have some old traditions that I do not know, but I can tell you what we do in my family, and it is much or less, what everybody usually do.
On Friday we paint the eggs and fast (that is, we do not eat anything coming from an animal - like meat, eggs, cheese and such. That includes anything that might have been made with those ingredients).
On Saturday we make the food for the Sunday, that is Easter, so we don't have to do much that day except have a family meal and rest. Also it is a custom to say to everyone you meet: "Hristos voskrese." and they answer with: "Vaistinu voskrese." It is somewhat archaic greeting that means something like - "Christ has risen from the dead" - "He really did rise".
Also, we are orthodox in Serbia so we have our Easter by the old calendar and it is next week. :)

And they are! At least when it's warm outside.
But it can't be too warm, hot or sth. I remember when I was a little kido there was about 35 degrees (Celsius) and people where even begging to flush them with our buckets. There is no fun when victims want to be attacked! :C

Added link to main thread, thanks! :D Wasn't aware that English Wiki will say so much about it ^^
But there is no word about Germany. You also adopted this tradition? ^^ Or it's mostly East where there was much less Germanic people and more Slavs?

My parents are from Poland so I grew up with this. :)
It's no german tradition at all, don't get me wrong here.
